I am 7 weeks tomorrow. I went from Size 2 to 8 in
that time frame. Arguably, size 6 fits but it's just a bit too tight
for what I am used to. Most of the extra weight is in my butt.
Is it normal to gain a lot of weight in the first few weeks? I've always
eaten when I am hungry even when I was a size 2. It's just that I am A
LOT hungrier now! I eat ~6 small healthy meals per day. I haven't even
had chocolate once!
I hope it slows down because I am going to hit 25-35lbs way sooner than 40 weeks.

How can you tell if it's bloat vs. weight gain? The pants are tight around my butt so I assumed it was fat, not bloat...
holy cow Quints. You are doing really good!

I gained 4 lbs during my first tri...and also tracked inches. Pounds can be very deceiving -- especially considering that you should be drinking more water, and water is 8 lbs a gallon.
I knew my pre pregnancy measurements of thighs, hips, waist around navel and at thinnest part, and arms. Even though I have gained 25 lbs at this point, I have only gained 1/2 inch on my thighs and hips, and a BUNCH on my belly, but that is where it is supposed to be growing
If you are truly gaining very fast, make sure you get 1/2 hour of activity a day, and you may want to track your calories to make sure you are getting enough protein and calcium (eat at weight maintenance for the 1st tri and early 2nd tri.) Also try to get in a lot of veggies. Finally, beware of the weight spikes. There are times when I (and others from what I heard, so it is normal) would put on 3 lbs in a week, but then nothing for 2-3 weeks.
Good luck

I agree with pp that there's a lot of bloat involved. Just because you feel most comfortable in a size 8 doesn't mean that you've gained enough pounds to move you up 6 sizes in 7 weeks.
My advice would be to weigh yourself and talk to your doctor about it. Gaining too much weight while pregnant will make it that much harder to get it off after (trust me, I know!). Staying active helps too!
I'm 8 weeks tomorrow, and have fluctuated 3 pounds. Last week I was down two, today I'm up one.
However my pants don't zip! I finally bought a belly band at Target this weekend, and it's amazing! The woman that invented that thing is a lifesaver.
I think you will (and have) receive a lot of different answer to this question. Some women gain, some lose, and some stay the same. What's important is that you're aware of your intake (calories), and that you're trying to get exercise.
Weight is only one way of looking at it. Your blood volume is supposed to increase 10% in the first trimester. That's WEIGHT, but not fat or "bad" pounds. So maybe just measure your legs, arms, belly, etc. and track those changes instead.
I'm right there with ya! I'm only just 5 weeks, and none of my jeans fit, my khaki's (that were loose before) are tight. I bought a bband the other day, and it does help, but I'm still uncomfortable!
I have gained about 5 lbs, I know a lot of it is bloat. I seriously look way more preggo then I am! :P

I'm 11 weeks and I've gained 6-7 lbs (depending on the day). When I was 6-7 weeks I was SUPER bloated, and felt like I had gained 10+ lbs. But now it seems to be leveling out a bit. I've been eating fairly healthy, but there are days I just cannot stomache veggies, but I love fruit and V8 juice has become my best friend. Mind you so has a popsicle almost every day... I was quiet nauseas so far and eating frequently helped me a lot. I've always drank tons of water so hopefully that has helped things as well.
One problem I did have was I was bloated because I wasn't going to the bathroom (#2) properly, I've had to eat prunes and get fiber cereal, and that's helped with the bloat a lot.
I was told by my dr that our goal would be to not gain anything because Im already overweight. So far I havent gained anything which I am extremely thankful for. I think different people's bodies react differently to the baby indside. I think if you watch what your eating, and do small exercises everyday, you and baby will be healthy
I am however EXTREMELY bloated!! No fixes for that yet unfortunately... Good luck!!
