When I was a nanny I was invited (it was a 4th birthday party). It was nice to be invited, and I did attend, but it was a little awkward because I didn't really know anyone besides the actual immediate family.
It might be nice for your LO to have another person he is comfortable with at the party... even though we see our extended family about once every month, DD is always a little wary around them at first. Just a thought

I've been a babysitter and nanny for years and am almost always invited to birthday parties. I can tell you, I don't expect to be invited, I know the parents/kid genuinely want me there. But I usually become pretty close to the families.

This. I can't imagine not inviting her. We invited her (adult) daughter too so that she'll know at least one other adult.
