SO I threw my SIL a shower for her second daughter they are 2yrs apart... bought cake the decorations did it all... she made the cake for the 1 for my son the yr b4 that but didnt do anything else... it has been over 3 yrs and I asked her today if she could make a cake this time (she has her own cake decorating business) she said yea it is 55$ for my smallest cake...

well guess i will be going else where to get my cake now.. my mom is throwing a small shower this time at her house and all i need is something super simple  just irks me that i spent 150$ on her shower when my husband was laid off from work no less and now she can't even make me a cake...

    While it stinks she wants to charge you I don't think she is really in the wrong. Just because you threw her a shower, it doesn't obligate her to do anything in return. Who knows maybe she will change her mind and offer to do it free.

    That's really rude! I hate when family members are selfish.  So frustrating! Sorry to hear that...but, hey...good things happen to good people so just let it go and enoy your special day with your wee simple cake:) It will be lovely.

    its not just because I threw her a shower when i first found out i was pregnant again she called me said she wanted to make my shower cake and had so many cool ideas... but since she has been making 85-100 for tiny cakes so guess she realized she could profit from it more... I hope she realizes it but prolly not o well good ole walmart will get $25 from me instead haha

    yep pretty much  just had to vent all that 2 some1 i feel better now...I won't bother mentioning it to my DH cause he will always side with his family so not worth getting my feelings hurt 2x over it today...

    her daughter turned 5 on Sat. and she flat out told us all the cake which was huge and 3 different flavors only cost her 30 to make... so i would gladly pay that...

    Honestly, if her cakes are really expensive and labour intensive, I could see her charging.  Cake ingredients are usually pretty cheap - but the time spent making them can be crazy.  If her cakes are that expensive, they must look pretty nice.

    She could have maybe done something simple though - or offer you a 50% discount.
