UGH, XH - DS2 Kindergarten Graduation

DH and I received notice of DS2's Kindergarten graduation coming up next week a few weeks ago, so the first thing I did was send a text to his BF. His response was that he would not be there, because he would have to take off work.

They still have school a few days after graduation, to get them prepped for first grade. They will be meeting their teacher for next year and whatnot. BF wants to skip out on the Kindergarten graduation, but pick him up the next day, therefor making Zaine miss out on meeting his new teacher plus the end of school parties. I said "No" to this, but he's still pushing.

WWYD?

I would continue to tell him no. It will be good for him to meet the teacher and to say good-bye to his frends and enjoy the end of school.

  • I agree with PP, tell him "no".  Those are still technically school days for your son and he shouldn't be missing school.  Maybe you can offer BF some extra time once school is completely done.

  • I would also keep saying no.

  • Thank you all for the replies! I guess I was just seeking reinforcement that I was doing the right thing, and apparently, I am. Thanks, again! Smile
  • Keep saying no. I agree it's important to meet his teacher and be apart of all the fun parties. He shouldn't have to miss that just because his dad isn't even trying to take a day off.

Hellz to the no.  Meeting the new teacher is important for his transition.  In fact, our school does not do this (you only get to meet the teacher and see the classroom if you are new to the school, not a graduating K student), and I STILL had my son come in a few days early to meet the teacher and see the classroom and where his desk would be, b/c he is anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Do you really want to send the message that school is "optional" or something you can skip for convenience?  WTF?

Exactly! This is also the same man that literally screamed at me because Zaine missed school due to chicken pox. Also the same man that called me on Mother's Day to gripe and yell about us not telling him we were going away for Mother's Day weekend. WTF?

  • Just stay calm in your response and remind him that they are doing the ceremony early but that the end of year is on X date and he can get him as soon as school is out for the year. I would make sure you are clear that these days are school days and not just meeting for the kids bc it is possible that was unclear. But I would no. Let him miss unless he was sick.
