Anyone have a S-L-O-W eater?

DD is excrutiatingly slow at meal time.  It can take her 2 hours of stopping and starting to finish a bottle.  I am so frustrated-- I find myself getting angry at her because when she takes so long, that means I have NO time for myself and no time to be with DS.  She has always been kind of pokey about eating, but seemed to be improving a couple weeks ago, and now is back to being super slow.  Any ideas?

  • Maybe she's ready for a faster nipple???  Can't hurt to try.

  • She sometimes chokes on the faster nipple.  :(  You can see why this is frustrating.
  • My boys had a little trouble with the faster nipple at first too but once they got the hang of it, it was much faster!

Ditto.  It took about a day for them to adjust to the faster nipple, but once they did, I was much happier!!  :)

  • We tried the faster nipple and it worked at first but then she slowed down again.  It would take over an hour!  Our pedi said to give her a 30 minute time limit because by that time she's taken all she really wants.  That might mean that she's hungry again sooner but eventually she'll learn that when offered a bottle she should drink up!  Of course my Natalie would seem like she was just playing with the bottle after 30 minutes so I didn't feel like I was taking it away from her when she wanted it still.  If she made a fuss I wouldn't take it away.  Anyway, the 30 minute limit seems to have worked for us.  Good luck!
  • I have 2 VERY slow eaters...it takes an hour 85% of the time for them to eat their bottles...ocassionally we have  a 30 minute bottle and we feel like rockstars.  Our girls are IUGR babies and are still pretty small (9 pounds at 4 months...2 months adjusted, born at 2.5 pounds each)...our pedi USED to tell us to do the 1/2 hour time limit, but they weren't getting it AND Olivia didn't gain weight when we did that...so now we are on a 45 minute-60 minute time limit and no longer...they eat on level 2 nipples. It sucks...I feel your pain...btw my girls struggle with level 3's so we haven't moved to those. :(
