I'm having issues with DD's skin breaking out in this bumpy red rash all over her body. It is not heat rash because she is not hot and it is in spots where babies don't usually get heat rash.
Anytime I give her a bath or put lotion on her skin it flares up. It appears that she just has uber sensitive skin. When I called the ped about it he told me not to bath her or put any lotion on her skin until it cleared up. So I didn't, but then she gets these scaley dry spots on her skin after not putting any lotion on it. When I went for her two month check up last week he told me to put aquaphor on, so I did. And of course as soon as I did (or after I gave her a sponge bath) the rash came back and even worse than before.
I feel like it is this vicious cycle, if I put anything on her skin it flares up and if I do nothing it gets super dry.
I made an appointment with a dermatologist for her next week but any suggestions in the meantime? I'm cutting down baths to once a week and using fragrance free lotion.
I know newborn skin is super sensitive and is prone to all sorts of rashes it just makes me upset because nothing I have done is making it better.

Re: LOs with super sensitive skin??
Spacing baths didn't work for my daughter, she has lots of hair and used to sweat a lot.
Honestly, once the red patch was on the dry fase it would become a scale, fall off and be done. I must also say that she is dairy, egg and nut intolerant. You might want to look into that.

The same exact thing happened when CC was that small , I tried all types of things and I brought her to the pedi when the rash was at it's worst and it turned out to be eczema.
To clear up the rash pedi prescribed a cream.
Now I bathe her daily ( and quickly, 5 minutes max) in tepid water, and moisturize moisturize, moisturize because otherwise she gets scaly and patchy too.
I use products specifially for Eczema ( right now using the Neosporin brand eczema wash and lotion) and I can't /don't use anything scented .
I dress her in only 100% cotton and wash all her clothes in a scent/dye free detergent.
Same thing happened to DD about that age. We went fragrance free EVERYTHING. Laundry deterg, dryer sheets, lotion, baby wash, I stopped wearing any scented lotion or perfume around her.
We use Aveeno wash and lotion with the dark blue caps and vaseline on dry areas. Also we put on Aveeno 1% hyrdocortizone for flare-up areas. And we only bathed her every other day and put her lotion on while her skin was still damp.
Good luck, I know it's no fun especially when they're soo small!

G has very sensitive skin and I used aquaphor as well. It didn't really help. He would be covered in red rashes and nothing really helped. Now that he's older his skin is so much better. I'm not sure why but he seemed to grow out of it around 5-6 months.
I'm sorry, I know it's frustrating when nothing works!
