Food Intolerance?

Have any of your LO experienced any food intolerance yet?

So far we have had adverse reactions to pumpkin and beets. With the pumpkin DS had a red rash around his bottom and vomiting. We tried on 3 different days and same reaction all three times. Tonight we tried beets and again vomiting started about 1.5 hours later and now he has a speckled rash near his mouth and on his cheeks.

Anyone else had any experience with this sort of thing yet? What were your lo reactions? How long did/do you plan on waiting before trying again?

Re: Food Intolerance?

  • no reaction like that.. but she definitely doesn't like certain foods.  We tried something a little more bland, and all organic... so we tried peas, she LOVED them. Just a thought?

  • My DD had a food reaction (just diarrhea for several days) to pears when she was 7 months old. We didn't try it again for a month or two. Same reaction again. She's 5 and still has the same reaction to pears. In our case, it's that her body dosen't produce the right enzymes to break down that food, not exactly that she's allergic. But it does seem like your LO is allergic to those foods. I would also be very careful about introducing any other foods in the same family as the ones he's allergic to (like for pumpkins, assume he might not be able to handle anything in the squash family).

  • My toddler is like that with mango.  Just avoid that food for a month or two and if when you try it again the same thing happens, I would just stay away from it altogether.

  • Thanks for all the advice. We will certainly be avoiding those specific foods and members of their families for a while. Back to the basics for us! (I also make all of his food and buy organic as often as I can.) I hardly slept at all last night worried about him. Yep, completely irrational but I still felt bad for him. He woke up this morning and the rash is gone and is completely 100% happy.
