C-sections

Breech baby c-section question

My baby has been breech since 33 weeks.  I am now 38 weeks and my doctor doesn't seem concerned at all, with no mention of a c-section, also he is measuring two weeks big right now.   I'm wondering if any of you had a c-section because baby was breech and when the determination was made.  I'm getting nervous because we are getting close to our due date....

Re: Breech baby c-section question

  • That's odd to me that there has been no mention of it yet. Mine's been breech since 34 weeks and my doctor mentioned that it could be a possibility at that time. I had a growth ultrasound at 35 weeks and that doctor said that a cs was a pretty sure bet. Mine is both breech and giant. I have my 36 week appt tomorrow and I think we'll get it on the schedule at that time. Bring it up to your doctor. He may have it in the back of his mind. I know babies can still turn at the last minute. Good luck!

  • My dr never seemed worried about it either - he said they can even turn during labor -  but I was a nervous wreck.  Rightly so too because she was still breech when my water broke so off for a c/s I went.  But the dr gave me every chance for a vaginal birth.  DD was measuring in the 89th percentile at 32 weeks and breech but he never said I would have to have a c/s or even that it was likely.

  • I'm not sure, but I ended up having an urgent section with DD because she was frank breech.  She was head down for the last weeks, and after my water broke, around 9cm we found out she was breech.  Maybe they are seeing if your LO will still flip, or just are comfortable delivering a breech baby.
  • Yes, my first 2 c-sections were because both of my girls were breech. I found out at 37.5 weeks with each one.

It's odd that your doc hasn't mentioned an ECV or anything or even put c-section on the table. Maybe he knows something you don't? It is possible for your baby to still turn, depending on the position.

  • Found out at 38 weeks that baby breech and she had me schedule that day (although she said that if DD turned she would reconsider)  DD didn't turn
  • We didn't find out my baby was frank breech until he felt her butt doing my internal at my 39 week appointment.  We were going to schedule a c-section but I went into labout and had an emergency c-section within 24 hours of finding out she was breech.

  • I found out at 34 weeks that baby was breech.  I was being monitored for HBP, so I had an u/s every week anyway, and they checked her position as well.  She was measuring large, and still breech at 37 weeks, so we scheduled the c/s at that time, for 39w4d.  I ended up going into labor on my own a few days later though.

  • I had a c-section for being breech.  We first noticed it at 19 weeks and she never flipped.  I went into the hospital at 37.5 weeks having mild contractions that were getting closer together, the OB decided the baby was having decels after each contraction, so I had an emergency c-section that day.

  • I had twins and my girl was breech almost my entire pregnancy (my boy kept changing positions). We started talking c-section early on and scheduled it at my 34w5d appt. I'd probably bring it up at your next appt. Good luck!

  • All of my kiddos were breech throughout most of my pregnancies.  My first two managed to turn themselves around 36-37 weeks.  My third never could get turned, even with an ECV attempt made at 37.5wks.  She was delivered via c/s at 38.5wks, I was 6cm dilated & the doc was nervous it could turn into an emergency if I went into labor or my water broke, so it was scheduled.

  • Thanks ladies!  I brought it up at the doctors, and they had actually missed it because they were looking at size. We tried EVC yesterday with no luck so it looks like we will schedule the c-section next week.  So glad I asked!
