TTC after 35

Progesterone or no? WWYD?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for opinions. I'm on a natural cycle during a forced treatment break. I have progesterone pills just sitting around and am wondering if it would be worth using them. My 7dpo P4 is always normal, but my luteal phase is short (11 days). 1 progesterone pill a day as a suppository holds off AF indefinitely. AF doesn't start until 2-3 days after the last dose.

Pros:

I'd get to used these pills I paid for.

I could be absolutely sure my short luteal phase isn't a problem.

Cons:

Messy/side effects

There's <0.5% chance of a natural pregnancy so what's the point.

I was thinking of using them from 3dpo to 11dpo. What do you think?

Re: Progesterone or no? WWYD?

  • hmmm, I'm kind of a by the rules gal so I typically wouldn't take anything without speaking to my Dr. first but that's just me. My last 2 cycles, progesterone did nothing to hold off my AF, it actually came early!

  • I would take them. I am starting them this cycle (for lpd but otherwise different situation of course) except my dr told me to start 4 dpo. Good luck whatever you decide.

  • I would talk to a doctor before you take them-- just to make sure it is okay for you to take them.

My ICU is full of people who self-medicate. Even with things that seem harmless, that they had in the house from a previous subscription, that they bought over the counter...

Just run it by your doc first. Please...

  • I would not take them. There's probably more issues than just a short LPD, given that you've done two IVFs. Plus, I think it's good to give your body a chance to try to regulate itself, when you can. I would save them for any further tx. Good luck either way.

  • Thanks for the advice. I ended up not using any. I hadn't thought of the self-medication issue, but I guess that makes sense.
