Camping with LO & Hot Weather Tips

We are taking baby on her first camping trip this weekend and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for camping with infants.  Also I just looked at the weather and it is supposed to be 90 out for part of the weekend. Do any of you that live in warmer areas have tips or tricks for keeping baby cool? She is very fair skinned so protecting from sunburn is a big worry also.  She got a tiny sunburn last weekend on a cloudy day :-(

  • We took our first DS camping when it was hot and he spent lots of time in his peapod in just a diaper. It was ideal because it is ventilated but shaded--we used on the beach a lot. You might want to look into getting one...I think KidCo makes them.  If you do, buy the bigger one. We ended up buying a second one bc DS outgrew the tiny one.

  • I agree with the peapod or other such contraption that baby can be in that keeps bugs and sun off and baby can be in just a diaper.  My babies get really cranky when they are hot and held.  Remember that you can't use any sunscreen yet (block is okay but can you imagine the mess!).

You can put a couple washclothes in baggies wet.  When you need to cool baby or just wipe them up or whatever the wet washcloth will feel good.  You don't even need to keep it in the cooler, just wet and in a baggie (so it stays wet and other stuff doesn't).  As the wetness drys on baby's skin it will feel cool.

You can drag along your baby bathtub for a baby sized pool any ole time baby wants one.

  • We are back and over all it was a success! Both hubby and I got to ride the horses we brought and baby only had one major meltdown.  It was very hot and I discovered just how uncomfortable and sweaty both baby and I got while nursing.  On the afternoon of the hottest day I went and stood waist deep in the pond and nursed baby while she kicked her toes in the water.  It was pretty funny but we were cool and comfortable!
