NBR: honey as allergy relief?

Has anybody tried drinking local honey as a way to relieve allergy symptoms?  The theory is the bees transfer the pollen spores to the honey, and ingesting it in small amounts builds up your immunity.

I'm at the end of my rope as far as allergies go, there isn't a single medicine that works for my any longer.  Every time I find one it only works for a few years.  I have gone through every single one of them.  So before I go all hippie mama and buy a gallon of honey, I want to know if anybody  has found it effective...or anything else? I've tried a neti pot too...didn't seem to phase my nose much.

I've tried to use local honey before for allergies but really wasn't seeing the difference.  Maybe if I used it for longer than I did (3 months), I might have seen better results in preventing allergies.

However, I don't see the harm in doing it, so if you wanted to try it, I'd say go for it.

  • The honey thing is pretty much a myth. There may be minimal benefits if you are only allergic to flower pollen. I have terrible allergies and I take alevert everyday and I have to take prescription Flonase which has steroids. Really the only natural relief is a neti pot or saline spray, and avoiding the allergins. I have to leave my windows closed in the house and use ac. Cleaning the allergins out of your sinus passage ways is the best bet.

  • Allergy shots worked for me!!  I got allergy testing done, then got the serum and I gave myself the injections (because going to the doc every week is a pain!!)

  • I would LOVE allergy shots, but our insurance right now is crap and won't cover anything :(
