Research Behind BLW

Can anyone point me to a good website (that cites research) on BLW?  I have found a few websites that tell how to do it and the one from the doctor who started it.  But, is there research on this?  The only study I have seen cited is one that said that babies who did BLW preferred carbohydrates and that non-BLW ones preferred sweets.  It seems to me that I could try to control for that by not offering sugar within the first year as I did with DD who only has only a moderate sweet tooth and makes good food choices.  Also, is a desire for carbs that much more preferable?  The same study also said that 9 of the kids who did BLW were overweight while 10 of the kids that did non-BLW were overweight.  That doesn't seem like a very big difference.   I am interested in BLW, but I would like some definitive research.

Re: Research Behind BLW

  • I'm going to look in the book and see if it sites references, but I've never actually seen any research backing purees, so considering that there isn't any research backing any method of introducing solids, it seems you should just do whatever you want :)

Good point about the lack of research for purees.  I didn't even think about that since it's the norm.  I guess I was just thinking that most of these new ideas that catch on are often research based and wondered what was out there for BLW.  Also, I am way too stubborn to not just do it whichever way I want! :)

The yogurt post also got me thinking that DD did actually have sugar in her first year...in yogurt.  Oh well.  She's still a healthy eater now.

  • I looked at the book last night, and Rapley did a study as part of her master's degree and then published the BLW book.  So it essentially sprung up from a master's thesis.  I believe her study is the only one
