My 3 month old is 16lbs...

and 25 inches long. I feel like that is huge... I am not feeding him more than avarage (according to what I read here). What are your 3 month old's stats?

Re: My 3 month old is 16lbs...

  • That is big!  Mine is about the same, though I think about a pound heavier.  He eats 6 ounces 6 times a day...is that more than average?  He was almost 16 at 10 weeks.

My guy is at 5oz with a 6oz bottle before bed.

  • At 3 months Charlie was 14.8 pounds, 25 inches. I just weighed him yesterday (he is 3 months 3 weeks and he is 15.5 pounds. I think it's normal.
  • I don't think it's "that" big!  I don't know exactly what he weighs but I'd say we're close!  At 8wks, he was 13lbs12oz and 22.5 inches long, he was in the 95th% for weight and 50% for height..  He takes 6oz every 3 - 4 hours...or sooner if he wants it!  He's FF so I can obviously tell exactly how much he's getting.  His pedi said that I needed to watch how much I'm feeding him and if he wants any more before 3 hours to give him water...yeah, right...tried that once and he wasn't having it.  I'm not going to starve my child, if he's hungry I'm feeding him...if I give him a bottle and he's truly not hungry, but just being fussy, he won't take it!  You're going to get a lot of opinions on this...every baby is different, just keep that in mind!!!

Thank you ladies! I feel so much better.

I get a lot of "What are you feeding him?" comments. I will just tell them to STFU :)

I get this too cause he's got some serious rolls going on, lol.  My response is "whatever he wants, whenever he wants!"

  •  At his two month checkup DS was 17.5lbs and 24.5". He's huge, but I'm not worried. He was 10 lbs at birth and I think he's just a big baby. He's breastfed, so I don't know exactly how much he eats. I nurse on demand, and I would say he eats roughly every 3 hours during the day.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. My LO is a big boy too. 90% weight 95% length, and eats 35-40 oz most days. Sometimes as little as 29 oz, but on those days I consider him really backing it off. Ha ha! At the last visit a few weeks ago he was over 13 lbs (I didn't catch the ounces--bad mommy) and 24&1/2 inches. The nurses all love him and pedi thinks he's doing just fine. I'd be surprised if he ever told us to feed him water. They have a routine questionnaire you fill out before every visit, and one of the questions is "Do you feed your baby anything other than breastmilk or formula?" I'm pretty sure you get lectured if you mark "yes", judging by some of the other questions.

I think your LO is normal.  At 10 weeks. DS was 15lbs and 24".  I'm guessing he's easily close to 16 now. He eats about 30-40pz a day.  I send 6 5oz bottles to daycare (1/2 formula and 1/2 BM) and he'll get another 6oz of formula at bedtime. in between and in the morning, he nurses. He's definitely a big boy, but the pedi isn't worried, and he's been on the same growth curve since birth (9lbs, 22 1/2" at birth).
  • Our son was 12lbs 7oz at 9 weeks for his two month check up and 23.5 inches.  He was at the 61st and 63rd percentiles for height and weight which basically is the middle of average.  Every baby is going to be different.  Formula fed babies tend to weigh more because they eat what is in the bottle before the stomach tells the brain it is full whereas breastfed babies tend to be more an average weight because the milk is harder to get at and the stomach and brain have a chance to communicate that baby is full.
