January 2012 Moms

Let's hear about the mother's days!

I'd love to hear how everyone's first mother's day was!  Good or bad.

DH got up with the baby all night on Saturday, so I only had to wake up once (I EP, so I had to pump).  I slept in until 8 AM (unheard of!) and finished making brunch - both DH's and my parents live in town, so we had everyone over to our house.  I was able to have some mimosas and spend the morning with my mom, which was awesome.

DH also bought me a diamond ring with a garnet stone in the center (the January birthstone!) and wrote me a really lovely note in his card.

Then DH had to work so I had some time alone with DD - we played outside in the gorgeous weather and took a nap together.  It was so nice!  I feel so lucky to be a mom and to have been honored yesterday.

The only dark spot in the whole day was having to see my MIL - we have a complicated relationship (to put it nicely lol).  She walked in the door and asked to see my ring...that I hadn't opened yet.  So that was a nice surprise that was ruined!  Then she proceeded to be really (and randomly...) emotional all day.  She's been through a lot in the past year health-wise, so it's understandable that she was happy to have our daughter around or whatever, but she kept crying about things at the table and making a big scene, so I was annoyed that she was acting so crazy!  Oh well...the rest of the day was so nice that it didn't really matter :)

I hope y'all had a great day and felt deservedly special and loved.  Being a mom is hard work and we should all receive a little acknowledgment.

  • Mine was good! Dh got up with baby to feed her, I just pumped and went back to bed. Dd pooped twice (remember she only poops 3-4 times a month!) then we had her baby dedication at church. We had froyo for lunch, lol. Then he cooked me dinner and cleaned the house. He fed dd all her feedings and played with her all day. I still had to settle her for nap, but we got to snuggle. I think the best part is that DH was exhausted by the end of the day and realized how much I do as a SAHM. I was sad when I woke up this morning because my day of being spoiled was over :(

  • Sounds like you had a lovely day!

DH and I both get up with DD regularly (he changes her diaper, I nurse her) and Saturday night was no different. Sadly DD didn't sleep well, but that's ok :) We started off the day with DD giving my my presents- an adorable card, a garnet eternity band and a new laptop case. I loved it all!

The rest of the day was spent at my mom's (with my sis, BIL and DH) helping my mom fix up her bathroom.

DH was a true rockstar, which after reading some posts today, is rare :-/

  • On Saturday, we drove out to where DH's sister lives.  MIL came into town to visit as well.  They took DS from us while we went to a movie and dinner.  DS was insatiably hungry, so now I have no freezer stash, but it was fun.  The next day, we went to SIL's house for lunch and played a cut-throat game of uno before coming home.  We spent the evening at my brother's house and ordered in pizza.  Then last night DS gave me the best mother's day present by sleeping for 5 hours straight.  He always sleeps great after long car trips, and I appreciated feeling almost fully rested today.

  • DH took night/early morning duty both Friday night and Saturday night, but I told him Friday night didn't count since DS slept through the night until 7am : )

DH gave me a sweet card including a personal note, and a Willow Tree figurine. He also organized my spice cabinet, which let me tell you, was no small feat. We spent the afternoon at furniture stores in Cincinnati looking for a new coffee table and bar stools.

It was really nice to spend the day with "my boys" not worried at all about any household stuff.

  • Sunday morning DH went golfing.  I wasn't too happy about it, but I also didn't want to fuss over it either.  He did stop and pick up groceries on the way home (which he never does) so that was a plus.  And he did all this by 11:30am.

We spent the day at my in-laws.  Not my number one choice.  MIL and FIL fight over who will hold DS the whole time and pretty much just hand him back and forth to each other like he is a yoyo!!  It drives me crazy.  And they don't let me touch him.  When DS looks over at me, they make comments like "oh you see your mom every day, aren't you sick of her."  SO ANNOYING.

It was my parents anniversary and I wanted to see my mother on mother's day, but my parents are so laid back and said we could get together to celebrate later in the week so DS wasn't out too long and over tired.

DH bought me a necklace with DS name, birthstone and a charm with his DOB.  He ordered my favorite take out dinner Friday and Saturday night so I didn't have to cook.   And he took me out for ice cream on Saturday.  Then last night before bed he gave me a massage.

Overall, I really enjoyed the day.

  • My mother's day had a great beginning but a terrible end.

DH woke up with both kids and I slept in until 8:30!!! This is remarkable in my house I am usually up with one of the girls before 6.

Then DD1 and Dh went out and washed my car and brought me home a nice cup of tea. We then went out to pick out some flowers and potting soil so we could all do a gardening project.

After that I had my parents, sister, aunts and cousins over for a big barbeque which was awesome.

Now the not so great part. I have been having trouble with back and leg pain and had a bad fall yesterday knocking myself out...so I spent the evening in the hospital. Boo.

The worst part though is because of the medication they had to give me I can't nurse DD2 until tomorrow. She doesn't take a bottle very good so we have had a bit of a rough day thankfully DH took the morning off work.

Adela is STTN so DH didn't have to get up with her but he did make the most amazing stuffed french toast and bacon breakfast and served it to me in bed with mimosas garnished with berries. He sent me on a scavenger hunt around the house for my presents and ultimately got me an entire day of luxury at my favorite spa.  He worked all day in the backyard making it beautiful for me and baby girl then he took us out to dinner at my favorite place.  I too feel so blessed to have such an AMAZING husband.

To stick with the highlights, I got a 4 hour nap and a necklace with Liam's name on it.

Mine was good as well! I woke up with the baby at about 7 and fed him, and my husband sleepily stumbled into the nursery with a card with a spa gift certificate in it. He said that "K was hiding this under his pillow" (K doesn't have a pillow, and I think he meant to get up before me to put it in the baby's crib before I woke up but he slept too late, lol)

We went up to my parents' house where one of my sisters made everyone brunch, then we all went to the Renaissance Faire! It was stinkin' hot outside, but we had a ton of fun!

Then back to my parents' house where we had dinner, and my grandparents came over on their way home from my cousin's college graduation. My parents got me a cute little purse-shaped planter that's covered in moss with 2 succulents in it (hard to describe, but it's adorable) and a gag-gift of a package of muffin mix and a package of cupcake mix (I had asked my mom one time what the difference between muffins and cupcakes was- I was confused...)

Overall it was a good day :) So grateful for my family and my little man!

DH gave me my mother's day gifts early since we would have family here all weekend long.  I received eyelids for my car and a set of stacking rings with amethyst (February-DS), garnet (January-DH), and ruby (July-anniversary) stones.

My parents and little brother came from out of town to see DS dedicated on Mother's Day. We attended MIL's church (same church who did our wedding counseling) and had the pastor there do the dedication.  LO fit into his gown, the same one I, my brother, cousins, my mother and her cousins all wore.  He was perfect throughout the whole ceremony.  And the pastor did a very nice ceremony.

We went to lunch at MIL's invitation. Everyone came, including my SIL2 and her family, SIL3, my family, and some friends from church.  Very nice lunch except that it was too hot (102F) for DS and me, who were both sick.

Overall, very little to complain about.

  • Well, to start, DD decided she wanted to be up at 630 am (normally stays in bed till 9) but DH got up with her and amused her until 9 so I got to sleep.  LO and I played together for awhile while DH went to pick up the flowers for his Mom.  When he came home, I got beautiful red, pink and yellow roses and 2 sweet cards, one from him and one from DD.  He wrote the most beautiful things inside them.  Then he made me breakfast and served me juice in our fancy wine glasses, so cute.  Then he cleaned up, which is very rare and while he was cleaning I got up to get dressed.  When I came out of the bedroom, there was a beautiful blue Tiffany's box on the table, my favourite.  He got me gorgeous earrings to go with the necklace he got me for my 30th bday back in October.  Then we went and spent some time with his mom, talked to mine on the phone ( she lives across the country).  We spent the day hanging together with DD, then we all went to the Keg for dinner.  DD was an angel and I got to enjoy my prime rib dinner.  Yummy.  It was an amazing first mothers day in this house.  Hubby earned major gold stars.
