Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Uh, help? Really weird sleep/eat pattern.

Hey all, I could use some advice. Cypher is 13 weeks and his eating and sleeping is something really strange. I'm not exactly sure what to do about it, if anything.

He didn't sleep normally last night-- woke up every couple of hours and wanted to nibble or just fuss. Today has been weird. He ate a few ounces of formula at 5:00 AM, woke up at 6:30. He last ate only one ounce at 7 AM and fell asleep around 8:00 AM. It's 11:20 and he's still asleep. Would you wake him up or let him sleep? Thoughts? I know people say never to wake a sleeping baby, but there are also folks out there who believe that you should get your baby to stick to a schedule. When nighttime sleep is at stake, I really want to do the best thing!

Thanks!

  • I wouldn't wake him up.  He will wake up when he is hungry.  How old is your LO?  I have read about something called the "4 month wakeful period" and how they go through some sleep regression at that stage.  My Lo is just over 4 months and some nights she is only up once to eat, others is 3-4 times.  I have definitely found that the better she sleeps during the day, the better she sleeps at night.  Sleep begets sleep!  I don't have her on a schedule during the day, I just follow her cues.  If she is acting fussy, rubbing her eyes, I make sure she is clean and fed, plop her in the swing and let her sleep as long as she wants.  But for bedtime, we have a very set routine.  Between 7-730 she is getting tired so we do a nice warm bath with bedtime bath, bedtime lotion, jammies, read our 2 bedtime books ( goodnight moon and goodnight, I love you) boobie and sleep.
