Just wondering what people have heard about the reasons others (or the reason why they) were induced.
I was joking around with my Dr. that I was going to come in this week with a list of reasons my baby should come out this week hahaha.. I am so blessed to be feeling so amazing at 38 weeks, and stretch marks and swollen feet were not enough to get him to induce me LOL (before everyone freaks out it's just a joke I am not forcing her out)
But what are some reasons people have been or are being induced??
Re: Reasons for Induction??
DD #1 born 9/3/2003 - 8 years old - 3rd grade!
DD #2 born 3/22/2007 - 5 years old - in full time preschool
Good for you!!! Thanks for the response
I hate people that only voice negative things!
I think I am getting induced at 39 weeks (Thursday) becasue my Dr. is out of town next week and because of my mental state and stress levels.
I had a late loss in my first pregnanacy and I am so terrified of something going wrong with this pregnancy, especially so late in the game, that my Dr. agrees that we should just get this baby out while all is still going well. She said that there's noting to be gained past 39 weeks so here's to hoping I'm a candidate for induction (I find out tomorrow!).

The "big baby" reason usually has more to do with GD causing the baby to be big, not just normal growth, plus the OB/MW can only guess how big baby is, there is not real scientific way to know.
I meet with my OB tomorrow for a NST, U/S, and first internal, since I have GD we will possibly induce just so I don't go past my due date and because of family history, but it will only be a day or so early and I'm hoping that just scheduling it will get me in the mind set to go into labor on my own...I''ve been having a lot of BH contractions this week, so we will see what she has to say tomorrow oafter all my tests.
BBM - This exactly.
My doctor *thinks* I'll have a big baby as I've been measuring ahead for the past few weeks and was open to discuss induction at 39 weeks. However, I'm aiming for the most natural, med free birth I can have, and in many cases induction leads to epi's and c-sections, both of which I want to avoid at all costs. My doctor offered a growth ultrasound, but I just don't feel it necessary. There really is no accurate way of predicting baby's weight at this point in gestation. I'd rather wait it out and let the baby come as naturally as possible (even if it ends up being huge and I need a c/s) then induce now, end up with an epi or c/s, and have the baby come out at a very reasoable size. I at least want to give myself and my body the chance to birth the way I want. Though my doctor does induce at or right after 41 weeks...just her policy across the board.
That being said...many women have very different birth plans than mine, this is just my opinion.
My hospital does not allow inductions or c/s before 39wks unless there is a medical reason like high BP, pre-e etc. My office will let you consider induction during 39wks if you are 3-4 cm already. I have 3 friends that did induction when they were 3-4 cms and all three had perfect births with no complications. To each their own and this is a personal decision.
I wasn't hardly 1cm with ds1 so I had my induction set for 40w5d but my water broke earlier that day. For me I couldn't birth a 9lb12oz baby and ended up with a c/s. Not all women can birth a big baby but my OBs don't believe in inducing for fear of a big baby b/c some ladies can birth them just fine. I've had one rcs at 39w3d and will have ds3 at 39w5d by rcs.
I was induced at 39 weeks (0cm, 0% effaced) with both of my girls because of gestational diabetes. Both deliveries went very well and I have no complaints at all. Now that I am pg with #3 (and do not have GD) they are talking about induction again (at 39 weeks) because they are concerned that my labor will go very quickly and I might not make it to the hospital. This time I have been at 1cm and 25% since 33 weeks, #2 was born only 17 months ago, and I live an hour away from my hospital.
My doctors have medical degrees and LOTS of experience. I trust their advice and so far that has served me very well.
I was induced at 39w2d because of low fluid. My OB said the worst case scenario was a stillborn baby. That was all I needed to hear to go forward with it. I had a very successful labor experience...an elective epidural after 12 hours of labor without it, a vaginal delivery with only 40 minutes of pushing, and a minor 1st degree tear. My OB said it was a smart decision to be induced when I was since there was meconium in my fluid, which DD could have aspirated. My placenta had also started to calcify.
Being induced is a personal decision between a patient and doctor, and judging someone else on their decision is really unnecessary IMO. Being induced likely saved my baby's life and if the circumstances were similar this time, I would not hesitate to do it again. I'm actually petrified of going too far and having the same thing happen again without a healthy baby, so if my OB offers induction again around 40 weeks, I'll probably do it.
I went to my appointment on a Tuesday. I was in early labor, I was 3 1/2 cm dilated and my cervix was soft and my doc was going on vaca that Friday. We chose to have an induction so that we could have him deliver our child. I went in on Wednesday for Pitocin at 6AM and my daughter was born at 4:44PM. I am sure she would have been born that day anyways, but the Pitocin just pushed her along.
I was induced with DD due to being 42 weeks.
ACOG doesn't recommend inductions for suspected big babies: "Suspected fetal macrosomia is not an indication for induction of labor, because induction does not improve maternal or fetal outcomes." https://www.aafp.org/afp/2001/0701/p169.html
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
I was induced with DS for schedule reasons. We had just moved across the country and had no one nearby to watch DD. The doctor agreed that inducing at 39 1/2 weeks to reduce my stress levels was actually going to make for a better birth. And it was by far the better of the 2 births I've had so far. (1st time we waited for DD to come on her own.)
This time around I have had a whole bunch of unusual medical issues to deal with (both me and baby) and the doctor said that if I haven't had the baby by 39 weeks, he'd induce. Though we're not sure my body will keep this baby that long.
