Our LOs name is Anderson. It started gaining popularity around 2006 and usually is between 250-350 on the list. Prior to 2006, it was pretty uncommon as a first name.
We did care about popularity some. We didn't want something really common, but didn't want a u-neek name that people wouldn't be able to pronounce or spell either. I think we have the best of both worlds. I love LOs name!
Adriana is 132. I don't necessarily care about popularity (I was really pulling for Abigail, but DH said no), but I am glad that her name is out of the top 100
ETA: and ditto lab - I wanted a name that people know and can pronounce but without her being one of 10 in her class
With DD1 we didn't want a name in the top 100, when we chose Teagan for her it was 2009 and the name was ranked 321 in 2008, since it has jumped to 213 which isn't bad. We've met about 5 other Teagans in our travels.
DD2 was harder but we settled on Adair which hasn't been ranked in the past 13 years. We love it but think it's an acquired taste as most of our family has taken to calling her Addie.
DH has a classic name that's been in the top 50 forever and I had another Amber in my class all through school and so had to go by my last innitial, we were hoping to avoid that for our girls without naming them something nuts-o like Blue Ivy.
Harry is 709 and Desmond (MN) is 358. It's funny b/c Harry is #3 in the UK!
I agree with PP, I really wanted a name that was uncommon but easy to pronounce and spell and at least familiar to people. I think we found that with Harry .
Harrison is more popular (197) so it's possible that he'll have classmates with the NN Harry, but that's okay with me.

Calvin is #209. It seems to have peaked in 1924 at #44 when Calvin Coolidge was inaugurated. We wanted to stay out of the top 100 but not go too weird.
I was surprised to see that in the last 150 years, DD's name only made the top 1000 13 times! It wasn't on the charts at all from 1922-1981 and was only on the charts twice in the last 30 years (1982 & 83). Apparently her name peaked in 1917 at #785.
We wanted something different but not crazy. I've never met anyone who has the same name as DD.
i obviously picked a popular names by the look of it, it hasnt even moved in the last years, Emma is in second place. but i don't really care, i love her name and hubby and i have had it picked out for yearrrrsssss.

Our LO's name is Emmett, it is not on there. We were trying to find a name that we loved that wasn't too popular, but if we loved a name I think we would use it even if it was popular.
Adalynn is in the 300's. Like PP I wanted a name that was't super common but our second choice name (Sophia) is number 1 so I am glad we switched. Sadly, there were two other Adalynns born in our hospital in December. One heard our name and used it, the other came up with it on their own.

Same with Teagan, a nurse heard it and used it. I don't blame her it's a great name.
DS is Michael...I don't think you get more popular than that lol. I personally wanted a more unique name at first, but DH wanted a son named after him. I didn't put up a battle because I knew how much it meant to him.

I was concerned with popularity, but DH was not. More than popularity though, I didn't want a name that was "trendy". Eleanor is 150 this year. Judging by the reactions we get to her name it will never spike to the top for sure.
It's classic, easy to pronounce, most people spell it correctly, and there are some great nickname options for later.
We tried to pick a traditional name, and we never knew anyone named Ethan growing up, so we thought we were safe. Then we researched the popularity and saw it was in the top 10 the last few years. I liked the name enough to not care that it was super popular.
One thing I noticed while doing the popularity research is that, at least in my state, the number of kids with the most popular names has decreased. For MD specifically, the top ten names 20 or 30 years ago all had 1000+ kids with that name. I was looking at the last few years, and the top ten names all had less than 500 instances (I think). So I'm hoping this means that although E is has a popular name, he won't have to worry about being Ethan B in class.
ETA: just looked up the MD numbers, in 2010 the top name in MD had only 385 kids with that name, in 1983 1,268 kids had the top boy name (Michael) and the top 10 in 1983 all had 500+ instances. #17 in 1983 had 381 (closet number of instances to the #1 name from 2010). Hope this makes sense!
isabella, my daughter's name moved from #1 to #2 lol. i didnt want it bc it was the #1 name in 2010 but hubby really wanted it. i'm glad we chose it, it suits her. surprisingly, havent met any other isabella's yet but i already have 2 olivia's in my close friens/family and 2 ava's.
Alexa is 55... I was hoping it wouldnt be in top 100. I care a lot about popularity due to my name. I always hated being called by my last name or some dumb nickname because there were so many Megans. Even 3 of my bridesmaids were Megan. It was always annoying to me. I do love a lot if the most common names though! Emma and Sophie are so cute!
We did care about popularity some. We didn't want something really common, but didn't want a u-neek name that people wouldn't be able to pronounce or spell either. I think we have the best of both worlds. I love LOs name!
This. LOs name is 255 on the list. It's moving up in popularity so I just emailed DH and told him that if it breaks the top 100 in the next 10 years I'll be pissed. I wanted people to think, "Oh, what a nice name, you don't hear that very often."
My daughters name is Gwyneth and it's #978. I didn't want a popular name and I guess that's what I got. I didn't think it's that odd of a name but lots of people make me repeat her name when they ask what it is. I don't care... I love her name.
i obviously picked a popular names by the look of it, it hasnt even moved in the last years, Emma is in second place. but i don't really care, i love her name and hubby and i have had it picked out for yearrrrsssss.
I love your DD's name, lol.
We knew exactly how popular Emma was when we picked out the name. I have loved this name ever since I saw the move, "Emma"...After we agreed on the name we saw the movie on tv and DH was like why would want to name her Emma after this character she is a b*tch...I told him to just keep watching, but I understood his point....
Audrey is 43. We don't like any of the trends: k, y, x, -aiden, surnames, youneek or made up. 43rd is fine and if there's another girl in her class with the same name, I'm pretty sure the world won't end.

Brady is #135 and was most popular in 2007 at #93. We didn't really care about the popularity though, we just found a name we both really liked and that's how we chose it.
If we have a girl next we love the name Charlotte and that is becoming really popular but we don't care. Again, it's a name we both really like.Other than 2011 it's most popular year was 1943, that's kind of cool!
I was bored and put my name in and was surprised that 'Heather' is in the 700's! It was one of the most popular names when I was born. Just ask the 100 other Heather's I went to school with

Eli was #44 in MN. We had a hard enough time with boy names to care about rank of popularity. We just needed to halfway agree. There weren't any names we both loved.
Lewis is # 633, I purposly wanted an unusual name, as my sister and DHs names are really popular and they had 4 other people with the same name in their class growing up, and I would of hated that, my name is really unusual and I wanted that for my children aswell ( My name doesn't even appear on the list). His MN isn't on the list and neither is my girls name, which I am very happy about, now if I have another boy, then I am stuck as it took 7 months to find an unusual name we both liked.
Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.
Charlotte is number 27. Interesting because I've only ever met Charlottes that are older. I just fell in love with her name because of how classic and feminine it is. I really couldn't care less about how popular it is.
Wow! Emily is #6! I've always known it was a popular name but it didn't bother me because my husband and I both really liked the name. I'm in Cananda and Emily was #4 for 2011 in my province.
DD's name is not on the list....shocker! It's never been in the top 1000 and I can't imagine that it will be anytime in the near future. But that's okay, we chose it because it has special meaning to both of us and we loved it. I highly doubt she'll ever have classmates with the same name!
I never even checked popularity of our names. We had discussed naming our first baby if it was a boy Anderson when we where dating. Anderson is my DH great grandfathers first name and my husbands middle name. I love the fact that it is not heard a lot although I thought it was cool to see someone else on the board named their boy the same name.
I named my daughter Teagan. I saw the name thought it was easy to spell, pronounce and was different with out being too different. I had no idea it would even be on the list.
