WTF is it with ILs?!

Awhile back there was a post about how someone's MIL gave their baby frosting (i think?). Now on the Mother's Day GTKY someone's IL gave their LO a taste of diet pop. Last week when my MIL was babysitting DS I come home and she's like "I gave him applesauce, I hope that's ok" Um NO. Since we haven't given him anything except that pear the day we tried BLW and alittle bit of very watery rice cereal. I also told her not to give him anything but the milk. But does she listen and respect what I say? No. And then when DH confronted her about it, she goes "ANDREA didn't leave me enough milk, he was STARVING" ok thanks for playing the blame game. And he had plenty, he eats every 4 hours, I fed him right before I dropped him off, left him with 4oz, and he was there for 5 hours. But you can bet I'll be leaving more next time. I hate having her watch him. It's "only" once a week but that's still too much IMO. Ok I didn't mean for this to turn into a vent. Just annoyed.

Re: WTF is it with ILs?!

  • Oh, no!  IL's can be tough!  But, make sure to cut her a little slack.  My MIL passed away 3 days after my DS was born, and my mother passed away when I was in my teens.  Last year, my nephew (who is 7) and I were having a conversation, and he said, "I feel bad for Kellen" and I asked him why.  And he said "because he doesn't have any grandma's".  I about started bawling right there.  So, even though IL's are a royal PITA sometimes, be happy that you have them in your life, at least for your kids' sake.  :)

This is a good point. It's just hard when whatever I say goes in one ear and out the other. Like, yes, I get that she has been a parent longer, but I know my son and what he needs more than she does. I guess I'm just annoyed with the applesauce incident, plus her calling DS "my baby" or going "we have a 7:30 reservation at a restaurant. He'll be fine." Even though his bedtime is 6:00. Just little things that just piled up. Sigh.

  • Ugh my stepmom & MIL give DS things! Stepmom gave him grape soda on Easter & MIL TRIED to give him honey the other week when she was making a cup of tea...WTF?!?

I am happy that DS has family that loves him, but what he eats should be mine & DH's decision. That said, I'm going to a family function this weekend & see stepmom for the 1st time since the grape soda ordeal..DS will not leave my side this time, since family can't be trusted. Confused
