Very disappointed

DH and I went to the mall yesterday so I could get a pair of maternity shorts or two. It's starting to get really hot and I can't be wearing long pants all the time anymore. I tried JC Penny, Ross, Sears, and one other store that I can't remember. Not one had a maternity section. We tried looking in the shorts sections of each store just to see if maybe maternity was just thrown in there with the regular shorts. Nope. I finally said F-it I'll deal with the high prices and I'm going to Motherhood Maternity. We walked to where I thought it was, and it wasn't there. We checked the map, and it said it was right where we thought it was, but it had been replaced my a different store! A teeny-bopper store! I was so mad. By this time I dodn't even want to try any other stores and we just went home. Why can't anyone have decent maternity clothes around here?

  • Have you tried Target?

I am not sure where you or from or if you have this store, but try Motherhood they are nothing but maternity clothes
  • Maybe try a different Ross?  The one I went to here in Denver had a maternity section.  I would also suggest Target.  Maybe Kohls?

Did you read the post? Stick out tongue  Anyways, OP.  Try Old Navy and Target, also use the store's websites (the stores you already went to).  It is hot but you'lll survive another week while you wait for them to be shipped.

I've been there before and that's where I got my jeans. I have not tried the one in my town however. The one I went to was in San Diego. I'm not a big shopper. I will try the Target here probably today, I was just tired of shopping yesterday! lol

  • I like old navy. Our store has a very small section, but there are lots of cute things online.

Umm... That's what my rant was about. They clsoed down the Motherhood store. The closest one besides the one they just closed is like an hour away.

  • Target and JC Penney both have a good maternity line.  You may have to look online.  Also, Old Navy and Gap have maternity clothes, too.

I agree, I could wait another week, but I have this thing about being able to try stuff on before I buy it. You can have two brands in the same size, but one will fit better than the other. Thank you for the suggestion though!

  • Where i live it is the same, unless i were to shop online i would have to drive 6 hrs to the nearest store with maternity clothes. So i just bought larger sizes of regular clothes, should last me for a while (i hope).

  • I feel your pain, our mall sucks. We don't even have Gap maternity so I did buy a pair of jeans online.

Try the Amazon maternity store. They sell Motherhood Maternity, Pea in the Pod, etc. Returns are free.

I know exactly what you mean. I've had to order on-line or go 2 hour south to find something to wear. I need to dress up for work too so I need almost 2 seperate wardrobes. I've probably spent at least $600 on stuff so far...and probably more to come since the weather has been cooler here! I've bought from Motherhood(I really love their clothes), ON, JcPenney (for one pair of pants) and Target...GL!

  • How about Gap or Old Navy?

  • Target has good clothes here anyway, Kohls as well. If you're desperate buy some stretchy shorts that aren't maternity to wear while you wait for the clothes to be shipped when you order them online.

  • I NEVER buy pants online but I was in the same situation as you and felt I had no choice.  I ended up buying pants at Gap online (jeans, awesome corduroys, and black dress pants) and luckily they fit.  I figured I'd just have to send them back if they didn't and get a new size.  Yeah, it's a pain.

  • Forget about paying regular price for maternity clothes, i went to my local Goodwill store and found two pairs of maternity shorts for $2.50 each because i took advantage of the daily color tag special they offer, so i got them at 50%off. three weeks later i went and found maternity jeans for $8.00...try them and see if you have the same luck i did. :)

Other than all what was mentioned, Burlington Coat Factory carries maternity and they are very reasonably priced! Have you tried Motherhood!? Kidding, kidding :)

I went to JCPenny in our area and it had a really small maternity section. If I had blinked I would have missed it.

  • Don't forget the consignment baby stores--they often carry maternity as well! And surprisingly, I've found a LOT of good maternity stuff at Goodwill this time around.
  • I second looking for used clothes. I was lucky enough to pick up some nice summer maternity stuff at a flea market. I picked up a few maternity tank tops, shorts and a skirt for about 5 bucks - all from the same person, who was the same size as me. All the stuff was in great condition. Seems like a waste to buy new stuff if I'll only be in it for a few months. The only stuff I've gotten new was a pair of maternity tights and a cute summer maternity dress from H&M which I plan on wearing a lot (and then selling, haha).
  • Target, Burlington, and Kohls have the best selection where I live...

  • Try Target and Kohls if you have one near you. My local Ross had about 4 maternity shirts, luckily I liked 2 and they were in my size. I've also heard that Old Navy (who has maternity online) sometimes has maternity in their clearance sections from time to time.... But obviously I've lucked out at Motherhood Maternity the most.... Good luck!

Where did you look for the maternity clothes?  At most dept stores I have noticed they are right with the plus sizes.  My Ross only had one rack but I found three pairs of shorts.  GL!

  • Sometimes they hide in a corner, haha. Actually, sometimes not every store carries maternity...I know a lot of people mentioned Old Navy, only *some* stores around me carry maternity in the store. Baby consignment stores are a good place to check too, they often carry some (usually a small selection) maternity clothes and thrift/charity stores too (only thing I dislike about that is it's a hit or miss and I have to search...haha). Honestly, I'm shocked you couldn't find anything...I would have been just as frustrated and fed up as you were!! I would call around to other stores in the area and ask if they carry clothing, prevent yourself from frustration of checking in stores and then not carrying any!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I second (or third, or fourth) Target, thrift stores, and Burlington Coat Factory.  If not try online.
  • Maternity clothes are very hard to find, and I am really reluctant to order things online without trying them on.  I actually have no maternity pants, just dresses.  It would be nice to have a pair or two of capris.

  • I feel ya.  I've been having a hell of a time finding maternity clothes.  The JC Penny in my area had maybe four racks of clothes in their maternity section.  Our Ross and TJ Maxx doesn't have a maternity section.  Target's (in-store) selection sucks. and Kohls has only a little more that JC Penny.  How are pregnant women supposed to find nice clothes for a few months?  It's like our only options are: a) used clothes, b) ridiculously expensive Motherhood clothes, or c) just wear whatever small crap selection of maternity clothes the store decides they want to stock.  Why do you we have to completely change our personal style to whatever the fashion industry decides is in fashion for pregnant women.  Sure, I can buy stuff online, but unlike women who can easily fit into any size small or medium, I have curves and not every piece of clothing in my size fits correctly.  So, I have to try on almost everything I'm interested in buying.  AAAGGGHHH!  Shopping for clothes right now is so infuriating. It's just getting warmer, so hoodies are out.  I'm dreading looking for a swimsuit...

  • I found 2 pairs of maternity jean shorts at Burlington and they cost $6 and $3.  I also got several maternity t-shirts from Walmart online.
