I need opinions on kiddo's name :)

We are naming our son Jack Henry James....I know it's a long name, but they are all family names and really important to us.  Now the question is: to hyphenate or not to hyphenate (Jack Henry, or Jack-Henry)![Poll]

Re: I need opinions on kiddo's name :)

  • I think it's cute, but..... Why the double first name? As someone named Carolyn, I hate when someone says, "it's like you have two first names."  Ummm... Not really buddy!

Jack-Henry just sounds like too much of a mouthful. You could do the 'in trouble' test. Yell out each name a couple of times in your mean voice over the next few days Wink This helped narrow down what our LOs name would be!

My dad ha been doing this! He yells Grace Elizabeth!  Ok sounds good lol.

I don't like the hyphen and maybe just have two middle names?

  • My little sister's first name is Anne Marie MN LN. She just goes by Annie and no hyphen. I have a student named Mary Catherine. She goes by Mary Catherine and no hyphen. Don't hyphenate it. Looks funky to me.

  • Please don't hyphenate your child's first name.  It's a lovely name just the way it is!

  • Absolutely do not hyphenate that poor baby's first name, please. You're already giving him 2 first names. Don't make it weirder.

ETA: Jack, Henry, & James are all wonderful names. All are very classic & pretty flawless. To me, Jack-Henry is not.

  • I like double names, but without the hyphen.  As he gets older, he may want to choose one name or keep both--the hyphen isn't needed.

  • There is really no reason for the hyphen. Having 3 names is already a lot and having 2 first names could just be annoying for him when he's older. I would personally side eye seeing Jack-Henry on a resume.

We gave DD#1 3 names - Peyton Olivia Hope. Her first name is just Peyton & then she has 2 middle names. When she is not listening to us, we often yell Peyton Olivia. Really the only time all 3 names are used are for legal documents, like her passport, or when I am signing cards from her like on her Grandma's Mother's Day card.

  • I wouldn't hyphenate the name at all - working in the financial industry I know hyphenated names are difficult to enter into systems, can be hard to look up, and can make it difficult to pass ID checks that are now required by regulators.  It could cause a lot of frustration for him down the road!  Just something think about!

  • Don't hyphenate. I think Jack Henry is really cute, but I see no need to add a hypen.
