Not so fun Mother's Day :(

OK I"m going to feel sorry for myself right now. If I'm being stupid, please give me a "slap" and tell me to suck it up.

Quick back story: My DH is ALWAYS sick. And when I say that, he's not really seriously sick he just pretends to be. He exaggrates so much it's ridiculous. He was sick on New Yers, he was sick on my bday (sunday before last) and now he's actually really down with pneumonia so we spent Mother's day at home. That he was really sick this time obviously doesn't make me mad. BUT the fact that he had nothing planned bothers me. There was no gift and he couldn't even properly wish me a Happy Mother's Day when we woke up. So I couldn't hide my disappointment.

So then he said "ok, so where do you want to go? I can see that you are pissed and I"m not going to have you pout today so where do you want me to take you?"

OMG!! Am I wrong here? But i'm mad b/c he obviously didn't plan anything at all! OH and he ordered my gift online Friday evening and said it will get there sometime this week. So he couldn't plan to get the gift on time, he couldn't make a reservation nothing. Yesterday afternoon he then went and got some steaks to gril, (I told him I didn't want to go out if he was sick) and then he picked up a card and flowers. He's done this kind of bs so many times and the days that should be special for me end up being a huge let down.

OK done.

Hope you all had a wonderful Mothers Day!

Also let me add, that it's not about the gift! That sounded horrible ("there was no gift nothing"). It's just the fact that if he wanted to get something he waited last minute. I would have been perfectly happy if I had a card waiting for me. But to get something half way through the day when he had to go get it then, well that bugs me...

  • I understand your frustration. My DH is very absent minded and just doesn't think things like Mother's Day are a big deal at all. He did get me a card but he filled it out in the car on the way to breakfast. And that was it for my first mother's day: a hastily written card and me insisting on going out to breakfast (wasn't even his idea). I'm just letting it go and not making it into a big deal because I know this is how he is and he is a great dad. And it means I don't have to plan anything fancy for him for father's day (although I will probably still do more than he did for me for mother's day).

My suggestion: vent to a friend (or us here on the Bump) but don't give him a hard time about it. And go buy yourself something little that you would have wanted him to get for you. I got myself some flowers I had been wanting to plant in the yard yesterday.
