was told to take castor oil...

Funny right?  I work at a retirement community and one of our recent new residents is a retired OB/GYN.  We had a big party at work on Saturday and he came up to me to check on me, which he does about 2 times a week.  He advised me to go to the drug store and take castor oil.  I looked at him like he had lost his mind.  He said, "I know, docs won't tell you that these days, but hey worse thing that could happen is you poop alot"...um...OMG NO!  I'm not even 37 weeks yet so the thought of doing anything remotely close to taking castor oil is completely out of the question.  He must've been drinking...but he was totally dead serious.  Sign of the times he says...

    LOL, yeah it's little early for that.  Castor oil will be my LAST ditch effort to avoid a repeat C/S.  At 40 weeks and 6 days, I'll be willing to give anything a shot.  But, horrific vomitting and diarrhea is not part of my "birth plan."  So, I think I'll try accupuncture first.

    Yikes. Definitely too early dude! lol Also, I don't think I could ever drink down castor oil. That stuff is nasty and will just give you a massive case of the poops.

    I know right?!  I'm game to start some primrose oil as of 37 weeks but I don't think I'll ever be desperate enough to make myself have the runs.  Gross!!!

    I took castor oil with my DS at 39 weeks. It was the worst experience of my life. I legit went to the bathroom for 6 straight hours. That's what I get for being so young & dumb and taking someones advice on how to bring on labor. I did not go into labor, but I did lose my mucous plug the next day. I would not recommend it, not to mention the taste and texture is horrible.

    Yeah my mom didn't take it with my brother until she was over a week 'overdue'. It made her pretty sick but it did kick start labor... Except that because she kind of forced her body into it, her labor was really slow and even stalled at some point (so she got put on pit against her wishes). At 37 weeks, you definitely still have some time to wait before you do anything like that :)

    I'm being induced at 39w1d and I will NOT try Castor oil as a way to induce labor on its own.  No way.  No how.  I have scheduled an acupuncture appointment and DH will get some sexy time, but that's about as far as I'm going.

    I'm getting induced between 38 and 39 weeks, so my OB had me start on Evening Primrose Oil at 35 weeks, increasing dosage each week until delivery.  That I don't mind taking, but I'd definitely not be interested in Castor oil.

    An acquaintance of mine took it when she was 32 weeks with twins because she was "sick of being pregnant."  I couldn't believe it.  It's definitely something I wouldn't do without supervision.

    Some old lady told me today to take it also! But she said if I do the baby will just slide out nice and easy without any ugly marks on it. Yeah......
