C-sections

Has anyone else had a c-section and an episiotomy?

From the same birth?

Tell me I'm not the only one?!?!?

I labored for 16 hours, pushed for 1.5 hours, got an episiotomy and then a failed foreceps attempt.

I ended up with a c-section under general anesthesia.Sad

  • Oh man...I am sorry that happened to you.  I can't imagine...my c-section pain was enough, I couldn't imagine experiencing both at the same time.  I'm sorry...I hope you heal very soon and def. make sure you keep up on your pain meds.
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • You poor thing!  That sounds like it's right up there with stories I've heard of vaginally delivering one twin and ended up with a section for the second!

  • No I didn't and I'm sorry you did!  That sounds awful to have at the same time.  I assume they did the episiotomy to get the forceps in, hoping they wouldn't have to do a c/s.  I've never heard of anyone else having an episiotomy and c/s with the same birth but I don't know anyone who tried a forceps delivery either.

  • I'm right there with you except mine was vacuum attempt instead of foreceps Sad

I was in labor for 15 hours, pushed for 45 min, but DD was in distress.  After the vacuum popped off once they did the episiotomy, because they needed to get her out and if the vacuum pops off 3 times they can't use it anymore.  Well it popped off 2 more times and before the doctor could put down the vacuum I was being wheeled off to the OR.

The next day when the doc came to see how I was doing he actually apologized for the episiotomy!  He said he never does them, but really thought she was going to come out with the vacuum/episiotomy combo, but once it popped off that last time, he had to get her out! Luckily I already had an epidural so they just changed the meds in it so I wasn't under general.

So I know your pain, it's not fun at all!!
