Hi, everyone. I never really introduced myself here- I just kind of jumped in a couple weeks ago. It was nice to find a board that I could really relate to.
I'd like to start using a cup with my LO, more for exploration than anything else at this point. I'm not sure what type of cup to use- sippy, straw, or a "real" cup. What did you guys use and why?
FWIW, LO BFs and is also comfortable with drinking from a bottle. We are doing BLW for solids.
TIA!
Re: What kind of cup? Sippy, straw, or "real?"
This is the only thing she will really drink out of. It has a silicone type spout on it and drinks more like a cup than a sippy. It just reduces the amount of liquid that can come out. She will actually suck on this.

The other way we get her to drink a little water is by putting some in a straw and giving it to her that way, we started that at restaurants. She will not suck on the straw if we give it to her that way so I plan to introduce a straw cup to her soon.

I started DS on a straw cup around 7-8 months or so, and he took to it right away. We completely skipped sippy cups. He can use a regular cup now, but he still uses straws most of the time.
As I'm sure you've heard before, straw cups are great because adults use them too, so you never have to worry about weaning from them.

When he was 4 months, he got BM in a tommy tippee stage 1 sippy cup, as it had handles on both sides for him to grip.
We have just kind of varied it and now he drinks from a straw cup nearly 100% of the time, though he has a toddler water bottle that he uses on the go. I say get a few types and see what your baby prefers- and what you prefer, some of them are so leaky!!
At home, DS started using a tiny glass at 6 months. That is all he uses at our house and the grandparents'. For hydration on-the-go, we use a 4oz Lifefactory glass bottle w/ sippy spout so it doesn't spill in his bag.
We weren't really into the sippy or straw idea as those products are largely made of plastic, and we minimize plastic.I think that using a cup has a drawback of being a bit wet here and there, but benefits in terms of motor skills, being like the rest of the family, and learning to be careful vs. just bandying his cup all about. In general, we are baby gear minimalists and I didn't have any interest in purchasing special cups when we had perfectly good little juice glasses already.

Thank you guys! I appreciate the advice.
I'm going to a give the straw cup a try and see how it goes.
