  My LO is younger than yours, so it may be a little different, but my son loves talking on the phone to me when I'm at work or out of town. He talks on the speaker phone to me and his grandma several times a week, so he's very used to it, and at this age, he recognizes our voices and seems to understand that we're not there but we're talking to him. The longest work trip I've taken so far was only two days, one night, but I did call home and talk to him a while that night, and it seemed to be more of a comfort than anything (for me and him both!)
  

  If your DD isn't accustomed to talking on the phone or skype, maybe you or your husband could call her or skype with her sometime before your trip and see how she reacts?

  In my experience, being away for the night is harder on ME than on him. I bet your DD will do just fine. GL, mama!

  I haven't had to leave LO, but DH travels extensively for work. We talk on the phone each evening. We don't use skype...I need to figure that out. But she does see DH's picture on the phone and likes to look at it while he chats. If the screen goes dark, she says, "uh oh!" LOL!

  When I travel without my son, i usually dont call or skype with him. Of course i talk to my mom or husband or whoever is watching him to make sure everything is going well.
