High-Risk Pregnancy

Adv Mtnl Age, Diabetic, Hi BP, 40+ and spotting - pls help!!!

Hi all!  My story goes like this:  T1 diabetic with excellent control (and no complications) for 39 yrs, hypertension (still on Coreg & Spironolactone OKed by my hi risk OB), hypothyroid (contolled), 42, almost 7 wks pregnant and spotting.  I had a m/c two months before getting pregnant with my daughter (almost 6 yrs ago).  With that pregnancy, I became pre-eclamptic and delivered at 34 weeks.  Thank God, my daughter and I were/are both fine.  She was breathing and only stayed in the NICU to gain some weight.

Can anyone else give me some insight, advice, hope???  I started spotting (only when wiping) about 9 days ago.  It was mostly brown until the day after my internal and PAP (this past Thurs).  On Fri, the spotting turned a bit red and has been a mix of brown/pink/red since then.  My midwife said my cervix was at it should be - closed and "long".  Also said the current bleeding is prob from the PAP & internal.

But I cannot stop worrying.  Worried about the spotting, worried about the Coreg and Spironolactone - even tho my OB assures me that for now, they are both fine.  I was on Labetelol with my successful pregnancy & am happy to chg meds (which I told my OB & endocrinologist)  But they insist the meds I am on are OK.

Please help!!!

Have you seen the perinatologist? You're more complex a patient than I'd want to handle by myself... As for the spotting, call your doc. And ultrasound would be very reassuring. For everyone.

  • Call your doctor about the spotting...it'll put your mind at ease!! I had spotting with this pregnancy and never did with my first and well...I was convinced I was on my way to a miscarriage (I had just had one right before I conceived again so I was on high alert for the first few weeks). It past the usual "implantation" bleeding stage but doctor said that's probably what it was, I guess it has a bigger window than I knew of, but everything is going well!

I would assume the spotting is from your internal exam...especially since it's only when you wipe (that's what mine was too). They say intercourse and internal exams can cause spotting. I would call the doctor just to check and see and ease your mind!!! Smile

  • Have they done an ultrasound? I had spotting at about 7 weeks (I am also T1 and had a miscarriage prior to my son 6 yrs ago) and my doc said that it was fine and there was nothing that could be done. I went to the ER anyway and they did a vaginal ultrasound and the baby was fine, thankfully. They said it was just implantation bleeding.

If you are not comfortable with what your doc says, insist on an ultrasound or whatever would make you feel better. Remember. You body, your baby.

    Good luck!
