Re: Training for a Half Marathon....

  • as much as Id love to say I did- I stopped running when I found out I was pg.  But def wait to sign up for the race until A)you talk to your Dr and B) wait as long as you can, cus you might not be up to it

I had a friend who ran up until she was 6 months or so cus she said it just felt weird feeling her baby moving up and down while she ran.  Wishing you the best of luck though!  I miss running so much!!

  • I did a half marathon at 6 weeks and just did a 5k at 10 weeks. I plan to do another 5k in June at 15 weeks, but no plans after that. I am re-joining my running group, but as a walker not a runner. Doc said low impact is best, so I am listening. I say listen to your body and if running feels good, then do it! :D

  • Could you run the half marathon right now or would you need to work your way up to it? I think if you are already at the point where you can easily run that distance, you have a good chance of being able to do it. But, if you are needing to train (as in increase distance, speed, and endurance) for this race throughout your pregnancy, you might have trouble.

I'm 29 weeks (so 7 months) and I'm still running - very slowly! I was able to sort of maintain my mileage to this point, but there is no way I could have increased. That said, running was still pretty easy (relatively speaking) for me up to about 24-25 weeks - it's getting tougher every day now. But you definitely could run it depending on your current fitness level and really just how your pregnancy goes... GL!

  • I did a half at 6 weeks, and then a couple of 10ks and some shorter stuff in my first trimester. In my second trimester, I had terrible, debilitating pubic symphysis pain which made even walking painful, let alone running.

I did just do a 2.4 mile open water race in the Gulf of Mexico at 30 weeks. Swimming has been a lot easier on me than running.

  • I ran a 1/2 marathon at 16 weeks. I was fine with the training plan, actually never missed a single training run, but it was hard on race day.

I had done my 12 mile training run at 12 weeks and it was awesome so I didn't think running 13.1 4 weeks later would be difficult, but it was. I didn't realize just how much my body was changing in short time.

I had contemplated doing another 1/2 around 24 weeks, but the recovery my body needed made me realize I need to step down on the racing front. I'm still planning on doing a few 10ks and lots of 5ks this summer. But no, I don't think I could do a 1/2 past 20 weeks- the extra weight from my belly and extra oxygen the baby takes up makes running way more difficult now.

  • I ran a half at 12 weeks, a 5k at 14 weeks, and just a 5k today at 21 weeks.  The hardest was training for the half through morning sickness. I did it thought and felt so strong and accomplished when I crossed that finish line. Go for it!
