I definitely think they chose the picture to be provocative. I wish they showed her holding him in her arms lovingly instead of her body being positioned so far away from his. He's standing on a chair! You know she doesn't BF him like that. They could have made the picture so preshie and sweet... Her whole posture and the name of the article itself is just condescending and makes it look too much 'in your face'. People get the wrong idea about moms who BF past age 2 and its not fair, and that picture didn't help the cause at all.
I have a subscription to Time and before we got ours in the mail I found out about the cover while sitting in the dentist's office. The tv was on Fox News and I was getting pissy just listening to what some of the people were saying about a picture of a BFing woman on the front of a magazine, not to mention a picture of a women BFing a 3 year old on a magazine.
I think that there is a lot of competition among moms that really shouldn't be there. Who's family can be greenest, who can BF the longest, who is the best CDer, who's babies walk first and talk the best. It should be about supporting each other and being helpful, and its so not. I think that a lot of potential parents that might have adopted some attachment parenting philosophies are now going to be very turned off by it thanks to the media backlash and what a lot of people are saying about the cover and article. I think that mom vs. mom is always going to exist, but I think Time just made it a little bit harder for people who like the walk down the middle of the road instead of one side or the other.

I am just a lurker, but that was a really good article. We don't identify as Attachment Parenting parents, but I have found by reading that many things we have done/do fall under that "umbrella" just as a matter of instinct.
