Trying to Get Pregnant

Low cervix.... Close to O?

I checked my cervix today to kind of determine when I should start using OPK (don't want to waste any if I'm not close to Oing) I noticed my cervix is really low... Does that mean I am close to O or not?  Should I start using OPK? Or wait for my cervix to become higher? I am on CD 10 I think... Info is in my siggy.

Early in your cycle, during and just after menstruation and prior to peak fertility when your estrogen level is low, your cervix is low, hard, firm and closed and easy to feel with your fingers. Your cervix lifts and straightens and becomes softer, higher and more open as your fertility (and the presence of estrogen) increases.

These cervical changes make the cervix more receptive to sperm and allow them to enter your reproductive tract and travel into the fallopian tubes where an egg may be fertilized. After ovulation, your cervix again becomes more closed and firm and lower.

The above is from FF. Hope that helps. FTR I do not check CP

  • I don't know if you have more charts to compare to get your average cycle length but I would not use your cervical position to determine if you need to use an OPK. CP is very subjective and, at least in my experience, can change quickly. On an earlier cycle I charted my cervix as low, firm and closed and got a +OPK the next day. This link mentions an OPK optimizer option on FF:

I didn't know that was an option until now, but maybe you could put your info into it and it can give you a better idea of when to start. Personally, I don't think starting on CD 10 is unreasonable though if this is really the first cycle you're charting.

Thanks for the info. This is my first month charting, so I have no clue where by O will be or when I will be most fertile. I am kinda going with the flow. I will start OPK testing soon. Hopefully my cycle is somewhat normal this month....

    Thanks again! :)
