So, I had a vertical incision with my C-section and my OB said I would need repeat c-sections from now on. I've kind of heard that it's not advisable to have more than three sections. Is that true? Am I limited to only three children now? How risky is a fourth or fifth C-section? Has anyone had four or more?
I've never wanted a big family but it makes me sad that I may not have the option anymore
Re: How many C-Sections have you had?
I've already had 3. Will be having #4 around end of September. My OB is not worried at all. I heal well and have very little scar tissue.
I don't want any more c-sections and we're not planning on having any more kids, so this works out for me.
Everything is dependent on how your body heals..........

I've had two. Im done having babies but if I had another one I'd be fine w/ another c/s as w/ my ob.
My mother had 4 c/s and this was back in the 70s and 80s.
I think your doc can tell you after you have your sections what your uterus is looking like. It isn't really the scar tissue, but what your uterus looks like. Sometimes they get really, REALLY thin.
There used to be a 3 and done rule, but apparently, this thinking has changed due to women in othe areas of the world routinely having 6-7 c-sections.
One.
But I'm responding because I'm in the same boat you are.
My doctor said she "requests" or "reccommends" no more than three. Then she sweetly whispered "but we have moms here that have had 8+". I think it's one of those things that maybe the risks increase slightly with each c-section. However if you heal fine then you should be okay.
A VBAC is still on the table for me. I don't know whether I'll attempt it or not. DH and I decided a long time ago that we'd have 3 children. 3 children=3 c/s limit...great. But now I want 4 just because I was told it's best to stop at 3. Don't ever tell a woman she can't;) Either way if I personally choose VBAC or RCS then in my mind I'm not going to consider myself 3 and done until that time comes. Women have MUCH more than 3 all the time and do fine.
I have had 3 and #4 will be in November. My dr. went over the risks associated with higher #'s of c-sections. He isn't concerned, but wanted me to be informed. His biggest concern is the possibility of placenta acreita (sp?) b/c of concern the placenta could attach to the uterine scar and cause complications. He will be checking the placement of my placenta at my 20 week US. He said that if it were attached near the scar, then their would be the increased possibility for hemmorage and the remote possibility for the need for a hysterectomy. He also discussed the possibility of damage to the bladder. That said, he did ask if I were considering a tubal this time due to my age and the increased risks of additional csections. I feel that he would support me if I really did not feel our family were complete, but I do and will be getting the tubal this time.
