December 2012 Moms

I think I just hit the jackpot.

This morning, I wanted a smoothie, but I'm allergic to a couple different things that shops put in them. I had FI go to the grocery store and pick up some plain Greek yogurt and a bag of frozen fruit (mixed). I put those 2 things in the blender and it was heaven. I drank the entire thing AND I didn't throw up. I might add some protein powder next time.

  • We're a big smoothie family.  You can use the V8 V Fusion stuff and get some veggies in too.  Frozen spinach (thawed) and carrot juice also add vitamins and don't change the flavor.

That sounds good (and much cheaper than the stores). What was the consistency like because it sounds like it would be thick. Did you put any liquid or ice cubes to thin it out?
  • I didn't add anything to it. It was a little thick at first, so I just added some more yogurt. It cost about $11 and I would say I'll get about 12 smoothies out of it!

  • That's been my breakfast for the last month or so! I add apple juice to mine so it's not as thick though :)

  • I will have to try that, but not with greek yogurt.  The consistency grosses me out.

Lately I have been making jello yogurt.  You take a package of jello, and dissolve it in a cup of boiling water.  And instead of adding a cup of cold water, you add a cup of plain (or really whatever flavor you want, just make sure it will compliment the flavor of jello you are using) yogurt and mix it together really well.  Then refrigerate it til it is set.  So yummy.

  • That's what I have for breakfast all the time. 1/2 cup of nonfat Greek yogurt, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup of unsweetened apple juice, and a tbsp of agave nectar. Really good and pretty cheap per smoothie. If you get the big bags of frozen berries from Costco, it's an even better deal.
