I would assume since this usually happens in an emergency situation that they would put you under general anesthesia.
I asked my OB about taking the uterus that I am not currently pregnant in (I have 2 - lucky me ) due to other issues and she said no. Because of the increased blood volume and stretching and everything else going on in there, a post-c hysterectomy involves more risk than having one in a normal situation.
Ditto hrmary. I asked my OB early on if he would do a hysterectomy and he said he would rather not unless it's an emergency. Too many potential complications to combine it with a c-section/postpartum healing if it's not a lifesaving procedure.
The plan now is to get my tubes tied and get a hysterectomy a year later. He said hysterectomies are *almost* day procedures now since he does them laprasocopically.
From what I understand, hysterectomies aren't done with a csection unless it is an emergency due to blood loss. I plan to have one done in a year or two (endometriosis).

If you end up having an emergency c-section, does it effect your hormones much? I know that keeping your ovaries is a huge help but what about milk production?
Re: hysterectomy after your C-section Anyone???
This.

Is your OB giving you the option to have one?
