I love the nickname Gus. Hubby does not like nicknames for names so I am trying to find a good full name for it.
I like Augustine (like St. Augustine- prounounces uh-gus-tin), but hubby is still thinking about it.
I was also thinking about Angus. Hubby is Irish so I think he would like it, but I don't like it as much as Augustine.
Thoughts on either? Any other suggestions?
Re: name for nickname Gus?
Augustine sounds like a girl's name to me--keep in mind a lot of people would mispronounce it as Aw-gus-teen.
Angus is okay, a little silly to me... Have you considered Augustus or August?

My Gus is August also, but when I was trying to convince DH I threw out a lot of suggestions:
Augustus
Augustine
Fergus
Angus
Ferguson
Gustavo
August was the only one he would go for. Good luck!
When I see Gus I think Gustavo.
Angus = beef. NMS.
I like any of the names suggested. Please do not use Angus. August would be my choice. I do like Gus a lot.
August and Augustus are okay. I like Gus as a nn, so those would be my go-to choices.
Augustine is awful, IMO. There is a little boy in DS's playgroup with that name and I cannot for the life of me figure out why his parents did that to him.
I know a Gus and his first name is Gaston.
August
Augustus
Gustav
My nephew's name is August (nicknamed Gus), and we love it! Gus is such a sweet little nickname, and August is a strong, intelligent name (think August Wilson, August Strindberg). I think it pairs well with a more traditional middle name.
Angus is nice, too.
Augustine reminds me too much of St. Augustine of Hippo; sounds too medieval.
