Old ladies and overheating babies!

Am I the only one with this problem?

I allowed my mother to start baby sitting one day per week.  Yesterday was a lovely, sunny and warm day.  I came home from work and my mother had my baby in pants, socks, an undershirt, a long-sleeved shirt, a jacket and had a wool blanket on him!  I have told her multiple times that I do not want her doing that.  I picked him up right away and changed him.  It must have taken me a good ten minutes to get him out of all that clothes and by then he was crying because he was frustrated with having his arms moved in and out of clothes so many times.

So what is it with grandmothers thinking that babies have to be bundled up like they are living in the tundra?

  • I have no idea. I feel like I overdress DD sometimes (crazy unpredictable weather lately) but your mom was way crazy with the layers.

  • Oh my gosh mine does that too! She's always yelling at me about socks (which are pointless anyway since they don't stay on). It's 72 degrees in my house and hotter otuside. If it gets cold, we put a blanket on her. The other day my mom insisted on putting a sweater on her to take her out. I said no but she did it anyway. A bit later DD started screaming, so I took her out to the car, took her sweater off, and noticed she'd been sweating like crazy underneath. She stopped crying as soon as I took off that d*mn sweater!

  • Ha.  My mom's almost the opposite.  Today, I said I was just putting DD in a onesie because I was going to use the Moby wrap while we were out and didn't want her to get hot.  My mom replied with "Good!"  I truly think it's because she hates dealing with pants/shorts/skirts during diaper changes :)

  • My mom and MIL are actually the exact opposite! They are always undressing my daughter to let her be free and cool!

  • I shut that down real quick with my mom. My LO has tons of hair so she is a sweaty little monkey. My grandma is always telling me to bundle her up in a blanket, and I tell her no way. I don't even put socks on her because she sweats so much.

This is my mother exactly. I can be on the phone with her and if She heard Georgia fussing she ALWAYS says "she sounds cold". Whaaaat?

lol. yes, because you can tell a baby is cold by the way they cry overheard in a phone conversation. hahha. I'm sure it is annoying but it's kind of funny too. :)

  • Every time my son sneezes my mil thinks he is too cold.  It was 75 and really sunny the last time it happened.  And with my 20 month daughter she is always adding layers
  • I live in the desert and have had my A/C on for weeks already (too darn early to be this darn hot!). My a/c is at 76 degrees. LO is pretty much always in a diaper and under a light blanket. That's it. Unless he just had a bath. Then he wears a shirt or onsie for a few hours, since he tends to be a bit cold after his bath.

  • My mom would let him be naked all day if i'd be okay with it.  When it was cold out, i'd put a light sleeper on my son for bed and when i'd get home from work in the morning, my mom would have the bottom half of the sleeper unbuttoned and his legs, diaper, and belly hanging out.  Really mom?  Might as well change him into a onesie lol
