another b-day question-activities??

I am in full planning mode now that the party is 4 weeks exactly from today.  We have about 37 adults and 14 kids coming ranging from ages 1-9.  It may or may not be hot, but it will more than likely be nice weather 70's+ at noon that day. It is in our backyard so I was thinking a bubble station and then I drew a blank.  What activities will you have for the kids?

Re: another b-day question-activities??

  • We're doing a splash party, but if you don't want everyone soaked, at the parties I've been to lately I've seen: water tables, sand tables, baby pools filled with ball pit balls, a pinata, bubble machines, bounce houses, a train table with blocks and play dough (a huge hit!) a wagon that big kids pulled little kids around in, hula hoops, slides/playground type stuff...just a few ideas!

  • In my limited few years experience making the baby/toddler birthday party circuit, party guests usually value the conversation the most.  Nobody really likes planned out activities.  Get a few toys for the kiddos like you suggested (bubbles, pools, etc.) and let them create their own fun.
  • Thanks ladies!  These were the exact ideas I couldn't think of.  We do not have a swing set in our yard or any outside toys yet, so I wanted things for the kiddos to do without running a game.  I want to hang out with family and friends but wanted the kiddos occupied. Play dough, kiddie pools and bubble sound perfect!

We'll get out our cornhole boards and maybe croquet for the grown-ups.

We're just going to have the water table out as well as a "kid's table" that will have crayons, paper, play dough, and some puzzles. Nothing too planned out, just there if they want to do something.

  • We're using a hall but I plan to bring some baby toys and also playdoh and cutters for playdoh etc.  We've used the hall before and the older kids were happy to run around but I thought it might be nice to provide them with something.  Maybe I will make them up bags of goodies to play with and have them waiting when they arrive.
