How many coats of paint did it take? The blog said 3 but I've done 4 and the word isn't even close to covered. Am I doing something wrong? And does it matter that I used fingernail polish instead of tape?

I used finger nail polish too and did 2 thick coats. It was way too thick and they had a hard time scratching it off. 1 wouldn't have worked though because it didn't totally cover the words. I'm not sure I used enough soap though. Is your paint really runny? If so, add more paint and put 1 thick coat on. HTH!
DS and I painted together. I gave him a paper and his Crayola paints and let him go to town. He painted in his high chair for about 45 minutes before he got bored! He loves to do art. It gave me time to do the last coat, you might try letting your LO color or paint like Mommy.
I am following the directions. That's why I'm so confused. I used pink ink. It just now looks like hers did on the second coat. I think my first couple of coats were too light but thick coats take longer than an hour to dry. If I do the sixth coat as thick as I did the fifth then I may be done. Guess we'll see. I don't really care how many coats they need as long as they work well and I can get them in the mail on Monday.

Mine didn't work. By the time I got enough paint on to cover, the paint wouldn't scratch off. I used Martha Stewart silver craft paint. I had to do a last minute revision of the cards to throw out the scratch off and come up with a new idea. Good luck!
I don't know what the deal is, I did a test spot and was able to scratch it off with my fingernail. It was awesome. Then I did the cards and it was so thick we had to scratch really hard. I might try making another one this week. We still have to tell SD she is getting another brother! I'll let you guys know if I figure anything out.
Well at least I'm not the only one who seems to be having problems.
My fifth coat still isn't dry so I guess I'll work on them tomorrow. I guess I should think of a plan B in case they don't work though. My mom and grandmother's Mother's Day cards are already late because I wanted to enclose the scratch off.

Maybe tape is better?
