Babies: 6 - 9 Months

DD sleeps, but I am exhausted!

Anyone else find that they are always exhausted? Did you go to Dr for it? What did they say? MY DD is 6 months and she wakes once a night, I do work out of the home 40 hours a week, cook dinner nightly, and then all that that comes with a baby but my husband helps and I find it hard to believe I should be this tired all the time with 8 to 9 hours a sleep each night. I know I shouldn't complain for those of you whose baby is not sleeping but its still exhausting. Wonder if somethings wrong?

  • I have been on medication for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (a degenerative thyroid disease that causes underactive thyroid) for several years now, and I notice that I feel quite exhaused whenever my medication needs to be upped.  Other symptoms are very dry skin, being cold all the time, trouble losing weight and hair loss (although hair loss is normal postpartum as well).  All it takes is a quick blood test to be checked for it and I just take one small pill each day of thyroid hormone replacement to keep it all in check and I feel much better.  GL!

  • I am feeling the SAME way and just told my husband the other day that I should go to the doctor.  If I go out somewhere, like the grocery store, I am pooped when I get home.  I have lost alot of weight since I had my LO but it's from breast feeding.  I know I'm out of shape but I never thought I would be this tired.  Even if I get 7 or more hours of sleep, I'm STILL tired!

You are doing ALOT!!!  Not only are you taking care of your baby but you are also working.  I'm exhausted too but I'm a stay at home mom right now.

  • I would suggest a physical or even some basic bloodwork to at least narrow things down. I had the same problem except I work night shift and people think that is an automatic answer to tired symptoms. Anyway....I am very anemic and have been but my body has decided to not absorb any iron perscriptions I take. So that was the main reason for my paleness, tired, etc. I recently started iv iron treatments every two weeks which had tanked me even more for the time being. either way I say go to the doctor, it can't hurt to at least play it safe.

I'm sure when you were pregnant you took prenatal vitamins, are you taking anything now?

Two months ago when DS was waking at least once a night, yes I was exhausted. Your sleep is interrupted and you're going to feel exhausted. I don't think it's a medical thing, but you could see a doctor just in case
  • It wouldn't hurt to ask the dr about it.  My DD has been STTN for months but I can't sleep worth a flip.  Forget napping.  I just can't relax enough to fall asleep and I'm going to ask the dr about it tomorrow because it's interferring with work and everything now.

  • With my first, I distinctly remember being REALLY tired around the time my daughter was 6 months old, too. I stayed at home and took care of her all day, did all the other household chores, but also had a husband that worked a lot. She also was sleeping through the night, and I couldn't figure out why my 9 hours of sleep a night wasn't enough to take away the exhaustion. I was checked for an iron deficiency, and I was fine.

What helped was exercise and a good diet. Yep, it was that simple. I cut back on caffeine and sugar and alcohol, and made sure I was getting 30-60 minutes of intense cardio a day. What might be happening to you is that you aren't actually getting that really good deep sleep that you need.

By the time she was 8 months, the intense exhaustion had gotten much better. Now I have a 6 month old and a three year old, and am exhausted again, ha ha!
