Is this even possible?

I went to the doc Wed and had an internal that was extremely painful. I know they are uncomfortable but this one took my breath away. I was completely closed and my cervix was firm. My doc actually said I had a pretty "miserable cervix" (pretty rude right?)

Anyways, once I got home I noticed a difference in my discharge (sorry if TMI) it was darker and a little pink but I just chalked it up to the internal. Well, since yesterday night I have felt an increase in discharge. I change pantyliners twice as much as I did before the internal check now and I don't see the colored discharge anymore I just know that the pantyliners get soaked.

My question is, is it even possible that this could be a waters leak? I kinda wonder if she maybe was too rough and could have maybe scratched or tore a tiny hole? But if I'm not even close to being ready to deliver...could it leak out this much at all?

  • I had a very similar experience. We did go to labor and delivery to have it checked, and it was not amniotic fluid. My cervix was still closed. However, we were thankful that we played it safe, and our doctor gave us a way (q-tips that turn blue) to check if the excess discharge is actually amniotic fluid.

  • At this point, baby can tear tiny holes in their sac with their nails. They seal right back up, but you still leak fluid. Plus, like PP said, slow leaks are possible at this point. It may or may not have to do with the exam. Discharge also becomes more watery vs thick at this point. Nothing wrong with getting it checked out. Always better to be safe than not.
