IVF with assisted hatching?

Well, IUI # 3 was indeed a BFN.  We will likely be moving onto IVF by the summer.  Still debating OE vs. DE.

I read that assisted hatching is often recommended for ladies over 40 (IVF with OE).  Have any of you had this with an IVF cycle?  How does it make the process more complicated and will it really help my chances?

DOR and AMA
2/12-5/12: 4 IUI cycles = all BFN;
7/12: DE IVF # 1 (with ICSI)- 20R, 16M, 14F, 5DT of 2 blasts; 6 frosties = BFN;
Lupus anticoagulant initially high, then found to be normal on hematology consult;
Follow up testing in September all clear;
Started synthroid for "high normal" TSH;
FET # 1- late October 2012- BFP on FRER; beta # 1- 21(low), beta # 2- 48 (still low), beta # 3- 132, beta # 4- 1,293; beta # 5- 5,606; last beta- over 100,000. First u/s 11/21- heard heartbeat
12/12- Officially an OB patient!
Level 2 ultrasound at 20 weeks shows vasa previa and VCI
Referral to MFM and mandatory c section for delivery
Beautiful baby girl born at 34 weeks
Finally home after 15 day NICU stay!
Trying for sibling: FET # 2- May 2014; beta 5/31, BFN
FET #3, early July 2014; beta 7/14, BFN
DE IVF # 2- August 2014; 14R, 13M, 11F, 5dt of 2 blasts (3 AA), 5 frosties = BFN
FET #4- December 2014, yet another BFN

Dr. KK work up shows borderline uterine blood flow, elevated NK cells, and MTHFR mutation (homozygous for c677t)

Added baby aspirin, prednisone, supplements, Metanx, and intralipids

Switched to large clinic for final attempt; had endometrial receptivity testing in January; FET March 2015 = yet another BFN

Likely OAD- NBC

    My clinic did assisted hatching with my IVF and it was already included in the price.  It is done on Day 3 or Day 5 depending on your transfer date.  They basically laser a teeny tiny hole in the shell of the embryo.  It is supposed to help the embryo hatch out of the shell more easily and increase implantation rates.

    Here's a video of the process (in this video they use an acid solution instead of a laser to create the opening, but there is a video further below that for the laser process).

    From what I've read, it's usually recommended if there are MFI. But that's only from what I've read. I'll be curious to see what you find out as I think that might be our path this summer as well if this next IUI is a bust. DH isn't fully on board yet, but if we're going to do it, July would be the best timing..my fall work schedule is way too crazy..

    You are probably thinking of IVF with ICSI (where they inject the sperm into the egg).  I did ICSI plus assisted hatching.  Depending on the clinic, some choose to do ICSI with AH for women of AMA.

    This exactly, we did assisted hatching with a 3dt for IVF #1.  I'm 38, my RE recommends assisted hatching for all 3dt...

    Depending on 3dt vs 5dt i'm not sure if we'll have assisted hatching this round of IVF.

    Me = 39 DH = 50 TTC (since 01/2009 after a short break, I stopped counting *cycles* in 2010)
    DX 2010 : Unknown Infertility , AMA
    HSG 2005 = Normal / HSG 2010 = Normal
    SA 2005 = Normal / SA 2010 /2012 = Slightly low count : motility, morphology GREAT!
    Chromosomal analysis, MTHFR, ANA's, Lupus, Protein C, Protein S, APCR = Normal 2011

    M/C : 2005 (7wk), 2010 (6wk), 2011 (7wk)

    8 IUI's 2010-2011 all BFN

    IVF/ICSI antagonist 01/2012 #1 = BFN

    IVF/ICSI antagonist long 06/2012 #2 = BFN

    IVF/ICSI/CGH MDLF New Clinic/New RE 11/2012 #3 = One beautiful boy blasty frozen PGS normal

    IVF/ICSI/CGH MDLF 02/2013 #4 = One more beautiful boy blasty frozen PGS normal

    FET 6/20 : One 5AA PGS normal transferred Beta 1 6/28 = 53.9 / Beta 2 7/1 = 220 / Beta 3 7/3 = 550!

    1 U/S  6w3d - Heartbeat 119 /  2 U/S - 7w5d- Heartbeat 169 / 3 U/S (OB) 8w5d - Heartbeat still great!

    Baby G welcomed into the world 3/7/2014

    I was told assisted hatching ($600 at my clinic) of day 3 embryos increases their likelihood of implanting, especially in older women whose eggs have harder outer shells (membranes?) AH and ICSI both increase the frequency of twinning especially in older women.
