Healthy snacks

I currently eat an apple with peanut butter for snacks but I am worried about the extra fat in peanut butter.  What easy snack do you eat that have protein but low fat?

Re: Healthy snacks

  • Some fat is good as it helps you feel full.  My go to snacks are Greek yogurt usually with a little cereal or a little chopped walnuts (you can get non-fat or low fat greek yogurt), string cheese and an apple, hummus and baby carrots or celery, cheese & crackers, etc.

  • I know I need some fat but I LOVE peanut butter and find myself eating more peanut butter than apple :)
  • Low fat cheese sticks.

  • Yoghurt, tuna

  • I wouldn't worry about fats found naturally in foods. Some other ideas: Greek yogurt, hummus with carrots and veggies, almonds or walnuts, dark chocolate, cheese and fruit.

  • I like yogurt, almonds, raisins, bananas, carrots with a little ranch, and cheese. An apple with peanut-butter doesn't sound bad to me. Peanut-butter has healthy fats that are good for you, especially in pregnancy.

You do not need to, and should not be, limiting fat while pregnant. You and the baby both need fat right now.

Choose natural fats and eat plenty of them! Butter, coconut oil, olive oil, avocados, naturally occurring fat in meat & dairy (and choose full-fat dairy products, no low-fat or no-fat yogurt or milk), nuts, etc.

Fats that should be avoided are trans fats, hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated fats/oils, and industrialized oils (corn oil, soybean oil, vegetable oil, etc).
