Super super super happy induction story!

Hi ladies!

I don't know if anyone remembers, but Monday I posted with a huge decision to make. I had just been to my 40 week appointment and been told my baby was gigantic and that they wanted to induce or do a c-section on Thursday. My doctor threw out the risk of shoulder dystocia if we induced and that scared the crap out of us. Plus, I had a horrible induction experience with our daughter 4 years ago, so the idea of that terrified me on it's own. I posted here to get your input and did a lot of praying. We finally decided that we would go ahead and do the c-section Thursday (because that seemed to carry the least risk to our baby boy) and if God had other plans, he could get me going and that would be that. Well, then I posted on here that 1:00 Tuesday morning (my due date!) my water broke. Talk about a sign ;)

So we headed to the hospital, got all checked in and then they did a quick ultrasound to see the baby's positioning. Ugh...he was 'sunny side up'. This is when I lost it because my water broke with our daughter and now my water had broken this time. My daughter was "sunny side up" and now so was he. So this was shaping up to be much too much like my first labor and I totally lost it. My poor nurses. When babies are facing up (towards my stomach instead of my back) it causes more difficult, more painful, longer labor and just isn't cool. My epidural didn't work with our first labor and i was beyond terrified of that happening again.

So...to make a super long story short, we had the most amazing nurse and on-call OB for our practice that we could have asked for. We went ahead and started Pitocin since my water had broken and they were really good about starting me slowly since I was so scared. They also came and gave me my epidural early (I only felt contractions for about an hour or so and they weren't bad). I wanted to get it out of the way in case it didn't work then we would have time to figure out where to go from there and I could brace myself. The epidural worked like a charm and I got to relax through and enjoy my entire labor. It went slow...but after my 30 hour labor with our daughter, the 12 hour labor with this little guy was a breeze! They eventually had to bump the Pitocin up to a normal amount, but the epidural rocked and I really only felt it towards the end when I was feeling the pressure to push.

Then it was time to push and I freaked out again since I pushed for 2 1/2 hours with my daughter and felt every single bit of it. I was feeling the pressure to push, but they let me kind of roll with the contractions and let them work the baby down a little bit more before they actually made me push. It was super hard to figure out how to push with the epidural but after a few practice tries we got it and my sunny side up baby turned himself around and was born after an hour of pushing. The only part that was unbearably painful was the crowning...after that it was instant relief and my baby was here and nothing mattered.

I am leaving out tons of details and I'm super sleep deprived so I'm not even sure if this makes sense, but the bottom line is that I was beyond terrified going into this labor because of the Pitocin and all the other little details, and it ended up being perfect. None of the painful Pitocin contractions (thanks to the epidural), the 12 hours FLEW by and I honestly couldn't be happier with our experience!

Evan Matthew was born on his due date (so cool!) May 8 at 6:59pm and weighed in at 8lbs 14oz (totally could have been worse!) and was 22.5 inches long. So he's a big guy, but it could be worse :).

Tried to insert a picture but it's not working. Here's a link:

Awww congrats!!! It's so nice to hear the good stories. I'm being induced on Monday if she doesn't come this weekend and it's making me so nervous. Glad that yours went so well!

I'm not gonna lie. I had a minor breakdown while the poor nurse was putting my IV in. She thought she hurt me! lol. I was just so scared. But truly, I wouldn't have changed one. single. thing. Just get your epidural early if you're getting one ;)
