Nothing says crime has increased in your area...

Like a scheduled nearly two-month long visits from COPS.  Awesome.  Wonder if we might see a film crew visiting the trash across the street from us.

  • Ugh...

I think at one point you were trying to convince YH to start looking elsewhere?  Any luck?

Job-wise, no.  We were looking to hopefully relocate to Phoenix in '08...but this was before the economy definitely went to hell.  He didn't get the job and shortly after that, they actually started laying off (back in '07-'08, Phoenix PD was doing a major recruiting drive where their goal was to hire 500 officers over a short period of time and they were recruiting from all over the country).  I'm not sure how many they actually haired, but by the end of '08 I think they started laying off).

Home-wise, our goal is to move in about two years.  We have work that needs to be done to the house, a couple of things we'd like to get paid off, etc.  But the goal is before Stella starts kindergarten.  I'm researching the suburbs and their school districts now.  I really would prefer that to staying in the city and going private.

Well, at least you have a long-term goal to work towards.  I hope you're able to make the best of it.  And, hey, if the film crew does visit your neighbors, I'm sure you'll have some good stories to tell :)

  • Is it all of Toledo? What part are you in if you don't mind sharing? I know some people there. I wonder if all the sex trafficking stuff that's been going on has anything to do with the show being interested...

I'm going to guess that they will cover all areas of Toledo...and the sex trafficking, while a big story a few years back seems to have definitely gone to the back burner.  There's more and more gang crap going on...definitely a lot of weapons violations, shootings, robberies, etc.  And too, this was now 6+ years ago, but we had our own little race riot that made national news (neo nazi azzholes wanted to march through a predominately black part or town...DH was there in all his SWAT gear...though this was months before we met).

But quite honestly, I really don't believe it's bad as all the chicken littles out there who claim the sky is falling, our city has become a little Detroit, etc.  Anyone who has lived here for a period of time KNOWS what areas of the city to avoid.  And, of course, I actually like Detroit.

  • I guess we should be happy it is a crew from COPs and not the First 48.

I'm not familiar with First 48...

And I guess I hear a lot about the sex trafficking still because I have friends getting involved in a non-profit there. I didn't realize it had died down some cause to them it's still a big problem.

But anyway, it takes a brave man to be a police man and a brave woman to marry that man. I don't know how well I'd handle that sort of job for my DH.

First 48 is a show that follows around homicide detectives in various cities as they work to solve a murder (the whole premise being the first 48 hours following a murder is the crucial time to solve a murder).

Yes...we watch all of these shows...this is our reality tv.

  • And too, the sex trafficking hasn't really died down.  It is still there.  I am aware that NW Ohio is a major hub given all the major interstate systems that run through out area.  It's just not in the forefront due to all the primarily gang and gun related violence (which, in comparison to the bigger cities...is not as bad as people think it is...there are certain areas to avoid, but as a whole, it is not that bad).

It's funny you mentioned that- I was actually going to reply with that at least it's not First 48.  I think Dallas has multiple episodes of that one under our belt along with COPS.  :)

See, it's not that bad.  ;)   They always make it seen worse on TV then it actually is, though.

Guys from Dallas SWAT have come to talk to our kids before at school.  They are bad ass!

Actually...I think maybe the SWAT show should come here...they could follow around our friend for a few weeks.  Until yet another on the job injury puts him out for a while (so far he's been shot and in an accident where someone ran a stop sign).
