I just wanted to throw this out there. My husband and I are trying to conceive as well for about 6 months now. I was diagnosed (loosely - they can't 100% without removing my uterus) with Adenomyosis back in January and was told it was so bad I need a hysterectomy. I had a Laprioscopy and a D&C hysteroscopy and this doctor also delivered my son via c-section.. so he has seen the ins and outs of my uterus first hand. I went for a second opinion and the new dr has had me on hormones to try to even out my uterine lining and I go off of all med over Memorial Weekend.
When browsing online for treatments and alternative approaches for my condition I found a dr in St. Louis who has some cutting edge treatments and approaches.
He wrote a book called "How to get Pregnant" by Sherman J. Silber M.D. and it talks alot about a woman's ovarian reserve and her biological clock. I am pretty far into the book, I find it fascinating as it talks about how all women are born with a certain number of eggs and that after puberty only have so many left and that approximately 1,000 eggs die each month during the cycle. He also explains that some women become low on the ovarian reserve in their twenties while some go all the way until their 40's with adequate reserve.
It also explains how during a transvaginal ultrasound you can have your technician count your antral folicile counts to see where you are in your biological clock. This also will help determine if a more aggressive approach to becoming pregnant is necessary.. like IVF. I have an appointment in 2 months and plan to have this done to see where I am at in my ovarian reserve, I am 32 years old.. and have had irregular periods all my life (which this among other signs show poor or low ovulation) and with this knowledge be able make important decisions before it is too late ( like find out I am below 15 antral folicle count - very low reserve and the only way to get pregnant is by donor eggs)
I have no idea where I am at right now, i have been in the hands of my dr's mercy who has no history with me but is oh so optimistic about my ability to get pregnant. They say knowledge is power, and just wanted to suggest to all of you women to read this book.. and to KNOW what procedures work, and what it useless.. before exhausting yourselfs emotionally and economically.
Good Luck to you all.. spreading lots of baby dust all through this board!

That's actually a very normal antral follicle count and in no way indicates low reserve: https://www.advancedfertility.com/antralfollicles.htm

Wow.. I guess a girl can't be nice on this board right? Was only trying to help.
Maybe you don't need the book, I see you must a pro. I was purely just putting it out there.. I am no idiot when it comes to my body or what an ultrasound is. I thought the book might be helpful for some..
It wasn't meant to cure all.. and I am sure there are quite a few of you out there that this is all old news.
I don't think it warranted the bitter comment back.
There was a reason I left this bitter miserable lonely board a few months ago.. I came for comfort and just to vent.. and every time there are nothing but miserable nasty people.
Good luck to you all.
Then you should have learned last time that this post was not helpful at all. Your "help" is beyond basic info. Seriously I have had at least 50 of the trans vaginal ultrasounds in the last year. I don't need them explained to me. They are also used on Clomid, iui's, etc not just IVF. Also, I really don't think you should be coming on here with a son of your own & only trying for 6 months & saying you are having trouble. Rude!

1) you've only been TTC for 6 months, how were you on this board months ago?
2) you got it very easy, no one was even mean. If you have had diagnostic testing for infertility, then you basically know everything in this post. You don't have to be a "pro" whatever that means.
3) we are not miserable, nasty people. You just don't know what type of community this is. Under your standards, we are all "pros" at this. Maybe you should post on TTGP because they are the ones who don't know this stuff.
@ Diamante I do totally agree with you.. a book in general is merely generalization. But for some people it might put out different things to think about. I am NEW here and thankfully I haven't had to delve too far into treatments or procedures for conceiving, yet. I have been battling other reproductive issues and procedures for years.
I was literally only try to suggest a book.. for some it is old news.. for some there may be insight to certain things.
I guess for some of my responders are so miserable that they attack anyone on this board who says anything naieve. Alot of this is new to me.. and I am sorry so many of you are stuggling.. I mean that truly. But it also tells me that this board is not something I want to be associated with.
I am not a mean or nasty person.. and I didn't think my OP warranted such nasty responses. Good for you if if you need that to make you feel better at the end of the day.
I was right all along to leave this board months ago, such negativity is not good for you.
I think you got the response because you made it sound like you were going to share very "cutting edge" treatment (at that point in reading I was pretty interested in what you were going to say) and then you end up telling us that the "cutting edge" technology is something that we all consider very standard run of the mill testing that was done for all of us and gave information that was wrong (the antral follicle count) So you got that response because you made it sound like you were doing us some huge favor by enlightening us.
Being a relative newbie myself to 3T, I try my best to lurk and read information from others so I can learn. It's very helpful!
Quoted from you in your OP: My husband and I are trying to conceive as well for about 6 months now.

The cutting edge treatment was regarding treatment for Adenomyosis. Not the transvaginal ultrasound.. seriously? I have had MANY myself.. that is not new.
The treatment for adenomyosis entails cutting the adenomyoma out from between the lining of the uterus and outer uterine lining. I was told by my dr of 9 years, who delivered my 7 year old son that our odds were against us in conceiving. I wouldn't come on here to say cutting edge treatment included a transvaginal ultrasound.. I wasn't coming on here to talk about the treatment for adenomyosis.
I was coming on here to suggest a book regarding knowing your ovarian reserve. Honestly the first I heard about antral folicile count.. like I said I am new here.
We have been trying since May of 2009 after we MC in March 09, but had to have an IUD in place or have the lining of my uterus cauterized and have my tubes tied.. therefore not being able to have children..those were the only options I was given. the IUD only worked for my symptoms for about a year and I have had nothing but problems for the last year or so, we were hoping to stablize for a while then take it out and start actively trying again. They were trying to control the condition first before we were then able to discuss pregnancy.
I know you can't get pregnant with an IUD.. previous responder. you caught me there! That doesn't take a rocket scientist.
I also know you can't get pregnant on BCP too.. but I have HAD to take them since January and 2 pills a day for February and 1 pill per day since then and only active pills to try to stop my bleeding. Have you had to take 2 pills per day for a whole month? And then continue for 12 weeks with only 1 active pill per day. Not having the green light to try, being told to WAIT? I had a D&C in early Janaury my uterus was full of blood clots, and I was still passing large clots and lots of blood all the way through January after my D&C and the only thing that stopped it was the BCPs. My old doctor didn't suggest BCPs... my option was hysterectomy.. ok? Do you know what its like to get news like that? When you have tried for years to get pregnant.. no I haven't been on this forum and tracking my every single move and temp etc, that doesn't mean we weren't trying.. but then to be told you can't have children?
I went for a second opinion and have been on BCPs, in a few weeks to go off of them so we then can try to conceive. The BCPs are to try to even out my uterine lining and when I go off see what my cycle does for about 2 or 3 months and see if I ovulate.. if not then take different approaches.
I also know you can't get pregnant with large clots pouring out of me for months at a time. We have been wanting to get pregnant since March 09 when we lost our pregnancy. Unfortunately trying to keep my cycle normal my little windows of opportunity have been far and few between. I said we have been trying for 6 months because this is how long we have been with a fertility and hormone specialist.. and trying new approaches to try to conceive despite my condition.
And like I said.. you know nothing about me..go ahead and throw stones..
This is all so new to me.. it's too bad that you feel the need to attack me rather then get to know me and see where I am coming from. It takes a pretty selfish and miserable person. There is so much we can learn from each other, we are all merely human. I am fine and won't lose and ounce of sleep over you.

You have got to be kidding me. Is this for real? Do we have an AE here?
Seriously, you do not belong here. And you know what? That is a good thing. I wish I didn't belong here either. IF is ridiculous. It is the most painful thing I have ever been through, and believe me, I have been through so many painful things. You need to get the heck over yourself and leave us the heck alone. How do you think you are going to get good, supportive responses when you call us all bitter and miserable?
Most of the ladies on this board are wonderful, beautiful, and supportive. I don't know what I would do without them. People like you are not welcome. BACK OFF MY GIRLS!
This exactly. Had it just been the "read this awesome book" that basically sounds like it tells you TTTC 101, I wouldn't care enough to respond. But in your post you gave VERY wrong information, that a)pissed me off b/c my AFC is around 6 on a good day and I've never even discussed DE with my RE and b)someone who is new and doesn't know better might read this and freak out, when their AFC isn't close to your "horrible" 15-when in fact they have no reason to.
If you're going to act like a know it all then you should probably have your facts straight first.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself-Yes, I know what its like to be told you have to wait to try again. After Both my miscarriages I had to wait to try again. You're right it sucks.
And two pills a day-how hard? Have you ever had to give yourself 3 injections a day, to lead up to an IVF that didn't work? That's hard.

No, you pissed people off by calling names when no one had said anything bad to you. You pulled out the bitter card right off the bat, like we haven't heard that before. EVERYONE who comes here spewing MUD resorts to that name first. Thanks for your originality!
Then you want to call us nasty and keep antagonizing us with more ridiculous posts trying to explain yourself and still be nasty to US at the same time! Some ladies actually posted useful information trying to help you for some reason. You left the board before and I believe this would be a fine time to leave again.
