........is awake!!!!! Peyton will b 7 wks tomorrow and I am to go back to work on the 18th. How am I going to do that when his sleep schedule sucks! It's 2 am here and I need help/suggestions on how to get my babe to sleep at a decent hour!!!!
I wasn't on here, but I was up! I went back to work after DD1 was 12 wks old and ended up going to bed around 7pm so I could get enough sleep to handle getting up with her at night (I EBF and DH worked nights).

Ditto PP. I go to bed around 8 or 9, whenever Joseph decides to nap just so I can get enough sleep. Sometimes my husband will stay up with him in the living room after I nurse so I can lay down and catch a few hours and he'll bring the baby to me when he's hungry or ready for bed himself.
Also, once he started at daycare he started sleeping better at night. I think there's so much commotion with other babies/kids that he doesn't nap as well and he's more awake when he is up. Whatever the cause he is more tired at night and sleeps more soundly so he wakes less often and goes down faster after feeding.
DS2 wakes up at 1:30, 3:30 and 5. When I'm on maternity leave I do it all but when I go back to work DH will take the 3:30.
Its really too early for your DC to be on too strict a schedule, but IMO having a bedtime routine that's the same every night and happens at roughly the same time (and when they're put to sleep in their crib, not just sleeping in your arms while you watch TV) gets them used to the idea of bedtime and makes it much easier in the future.

It's honestly not as bad as you think. At least it wasn't for me. I was dreading going back to work but so far I haven't been all that tired. DD normally sleeps 8-8:30-2, then 2:30-5:30. Then we try to take a nap until 6:30 or so. I go to bed at 9:30 just so I can get a teeny bit of "me" time. The middle of the night feedings, now that I'm at work, have become one of my favorite bonding times with her. It's the one time it's all quiet and it's just me and her talking and snuggling.
With that said, DD was a terrible sleeper for a while (still doesn't nap) but it's been getting better since we put her on a schedule. I don't think I'd do it with a baby as young as yours.. we started around 9 weeks I think. Ever since then she's been a piece of cake to get to sleep. We started bed time routine (bottle, change, bed) around 7:30. She's normally so tired that when I swaddle her and put her down, she's asleep and that's that. Ours does still sleep in a rock n play in our room because her reflux is terrible, but I don't rock her to sleep. Last night she slept her longest stretch ever - 7 hours!
It takes a while for a baby to get into a routine, and usually when they hit 11-12 pounds they start to sleep a little better. I'm not saying you won't be tired, but you'll make it work. I agree that starting a bed time routine is a great help.
