Any of you get a chance to read this article?
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/05/11/time-magazine-cover-forget-breast-what-about-boy/
"Because she thought nothing of becoming far more famous than she ever was or ever would have been by getting naked on the cover of Time using her son as a prop?letting him, in fact, look right into the camera and be completely recognizable while sucking her nipple. He may never be better-known for anything than for being a breastfeeding 3-year-old on the cover of a national magazine. Ever."
Yikes....
Re: Keith Ablow gives his opinion on the Time Cover
Well, he may never get on the cover of Time again, but he's already got me beat by once.
People are so over the top about this.

Holy crap. I couldn't even get through that article.
While I would personally never allow that picture of myself and my child to be taken (because I think it is weird and unflattering to the art of breastfeeding) - who the heck is FOX News to determine who that child will or will not become??
For the record - I have no problem with her choosing to breastfeed her child for that long. I have no personal interest in breasstfeeding when my child is old enough to ask for a boob with a complete sentence but that's me. To each her own.
My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy. Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.
If she's "naked" then so is every other celebrity with side boob.
Report in quotes? Not sufficient? Sorry

Maybe this is why my sister says I'm a child molester (or rather will be if I continue BFing past the point where she thinks it is acceptable). Damn fox news...
I can't even get my 1 year old to wear a hat. I'm pretty sure convincing him to breastfeed (if he didn't already dive-bomb my boobs all day) would not go well for me.

Right??!?
this totally made me laugh. so true!
for me it's been a battle to get her to NOT breastfeed as much. I just wanted her to get down to 3x a day and talk about determination!
Who is Keith Ablow and why should I care what his opinion is?
Sure, the cover might embarrass him for a few year when he gets older. I was mortified by many things my mom did, including such horrors as talking too loud and with a Yankee accent and wearing mom jeans. I grew up and came to my senses, as will he. Hopefully she'll raise him with enough sense to THANK her some day for doing what was best for him in the face of societal scrutiny.
I gave you life, then you gave me mine.

No worries. I tend to use quotes to indicate sarcasm...Sometimes that doesn't come across clearly...But yes, I agree with you, this is not real reporting.
Uuuuuuh, maybe she did it to promote extended breastfeeding?
In the realm of horrible things to do to your preschooler, this doesn't rank that high..."Toddlers and Tiaras" is a lot more fuckings warped.
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Ditto everyone. Really.
I know a handful of people around my age who were BFd into late toddlerhood and just beyond (ages 3 and 4). This is anecdotal, of course, but not a single one of them is in therapy. And that's saying A LOT for a place like New York where practically every adult I know is or has been in some kind of therapy.
I am sure this boy will not be traumatized by his appearance on this cover any more than kids whose photos/likeness appear elsewhere.
On the subject of the TIME cover/article in general, I haven't read it. But, the tagline next to the picture makes me feel like the editors of TIME are treating this extended BFer as a freak of nature, instead of placing her on the cover to encourage other women to nurse publicly/go beyond the 1 year mark. That, to me, is really regrettable and makes me want to throatpunch whoever dreamed up this whole "are you mom enough" angle.
