Talk to me about thrush

We just discovered that Ben has thrush, and it sounds like that may be what has been causing all of my pain and soreness, which means I've had it for a little while too.

The boys are now on oral nystatin, and I have a call into my OB to try to get a Rx for diflucan. Does anyone have any experience/tips on how to deal with this and get it cleared up as quickly as possible? I'm dealing with twice the pain with two hungry little men, I could really use some relief. Thanks!

  • I can't make it clicky but check kellymom.com. I know you need to sterilize ant bottle nipples and pacifiers.

  • My DD and I both had thrush.  Boil everything that goes into their mouths, wash clothes in hot water and with a little vinegar to kill the yeast.  I even rinsed my nipples after feeding with a vinegar / water mixture and then let air dry.   I also took a probiotic pill every day.   You have to be very clean and it's a lot of extra work but if you can get rid of the thrush with the first treatment it's worth it.

  • You could also try taking Tylenol to help with the pain; talk with your dr. about the right amount. Lansinoh gel pads are also a soothing relief; hang in there - it will get better!

DD and I are still fighting this now!  It's getting better, and only DD has had symptoms.

Like PP said, I boil / sanitize all bottle nipples and my pump shields after each use in boiling water and vinegar (it kills yeast apparently).  I also wash the toys she puts in her mouth after she chews on them!  (Someone on a board when I asked had a good idea about putting toys that went in LO's mouth in a bag and essentially "quarantining" them until you have time to clean them).  Also, change your breast pads often.

    Good luck!
