Question about yeast inf / Nystatin

Have any of your LOs had to use Nystatin ointment for a yeast infection?  This is his first one, and we started alternating Nystatin and Lotrimin with every diaper change.  Since I don't want to be that mom calling the doctor, I have two questions...do we use powder on him at all?  And what should we do overnight?

Re: Question about yeast inf / Nystatin

  • DD was early on, maybe around 3 months? I was told to apply it 3 times a day so I did it for naps/bed time so it'd be on the longest and then for all other changes I just used regular diaper cream, desitin I think. I've never used powder.

  • DD has had several, unfortunately.  Nystatin 2-3x a day (before each nap and overnight) clears it up in a couple of days.  We've never used powder.
  • Ok, thanks...we don't usually use powder either, but so many people have told me 'what they did that worked' and I don't know what info to use!  His bottom is so red...and he's just started on meds today for a double ear infection that I know will make this rash worse, so I want to do the right thing.

I will also add to make sure to give LO yogurt or Culturelle to counteract the meds for the ear infection.  We've had yeast/thrush in the mouth and on her bottom...not fun stuff.
