as a FTM, this is a whole new world to me....talk to me about babies and solids please. What should I be looking for to know whether or not my DD is ready? TIA!!!!
I started at 4 months with my first because she never seemed to get enough of the formula. This one waited till 4 1/2. She started watching me eat and seemed interested.
No real right time. Your LO is going to change a lot over the next month so don't stress..
DD#1 started at 3 1/2 months because she never seemed full
DD#2 I didn't start until she was almost 5 months old cause she was getting enough to eat from just the BM
That being said every baby is different if they can sit supported and seem eager to eat (with DD#2 I prolly could have started sooner cause she ate like a pro) open mouth when spoon is placed in front then give it a shot...like PP said there is really no right or wrong time to start so don't stress it

The AAP recommends NO solids until 6 months. While it may appear that they are interested/ready earlier, their little digestive systems are not ready for that. If LO seems hungrier, feed with breastmilk or formula more frequently.
That said... a lot of pediatricians still say 4 months.
DD is 6 1/2 mos, and while we've started started some solids, cereal isn't one. DH has gluten issues so we're doing fruits/veggies first. That said, while she is "interested" in food she still doesn't eat much, and no baby really will at that age. BM/Formula makes up 90-99% of their nutritional intake and solids are really just for practice and play. I'll toss a few mushy pieces of banana on her tray, sometimes they make it to her mouth, sometimes she's picassso and paints with them. I'm in no rush for solids, nursing is way easier!
