so for the past two weeks my stomach has been kind of itchy. and within the last 5 days or so a rash has exploded all over it, spread to my hands, and is now on my thigh and parts of my feet. It is miserable. i called my doctors office to see what i could do about it. they said it was probably PUPPS and i could use Aveeno hydrocortisone cream. i dont have an appointment until Monday so my doc hasnt actually seen my rash yet, but i think its probably pupps. its a lot like poison ivy, and it seems to be more itchy at night when im trying to sleep (of course). but i havent been anywhere near poison ivy and i cant think of any other cause for the rash so im assuming its definitely PUPPS. has anyone else had this? did it disappear right after you had LO? it is TORTURE!!!!
Re: PUPPS?
Mine disappeared for about a week and came back and is now slowly fading again from what I have heard that this is less common.... the only relief I got was from the Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap, it smelled gross but after using it several times a day for 2-3 days the itching was more tolerable. Also it can spread to arms and legs, just so you don't get surprised.
(Also it was hard to find the Pine Tar Soap locally, but it was at a small health food store)
PUPPs is the suck. You have my sympathy!
Try Sarna lotion. That usually helped me for at least a few minutes. And lots and lots of cool showers, followed by hydrocortisone.
Mine actually got so bad my OB put me on an oral steroid, and that is the only thing that has truly made a difference for me.
Good luck. Hang in there -- only a little while longer!
I've had it for 7 weeks now and here are some things I've found that help:
- Benedry before bed (like PP said, approved by midwife)
- Gold Bond Medicated lotion
- recently a friend of mine got me an all natural shea butter cream with Calendula oil in it and it works better than the Gold Bond but I don't know where you would find it. The one she got me is from a local business
- in the middle of the night when you wake up scratching use a cool damp cloth - you get warmer when you sleep and heat definitely makes the itching worse.
I have tried so many different things but these are the only ones that worked for me. Everyone is different so just keep trying different things until you find one that works. GL!
