Having trouble with the name game - HELP!!

Hi Guys,

My husband and I sepnt months looking over names for our new baby girl. All of the names I thought I liked before we knew the sex suddenly dont seem so special anymore.

We know the middle name will be grace after my great grandmother but we are stuck on a first name. My husband and I are ridiculous with nicknames. We call each other the most absurd things, our poor dog probably doesnt know his real name at this point either. For some reason a "nickname" that has to do with the name is important.

We like...

Elliott Grace "Elsie"

Harlow Grace "Loie"

Harriot Grace "Hattie"

Selah Grace - We NEED a nickname for this!!

I really like Selah (Say-lah) but cant think of a cute nickname (Don't like "Lah Lah") I dont know why its important to me haha I think Selah is beautiful and will probably call her Pickle or Froggy or something crazy but I would LOVE if any of you could come up with a cute nickname for Selah Grace, it just may seal the deal!!

  • I like Selah.  We know a little girl names Selah and I think it's adorable.  Did you get the name from Psalms, or is it just a name that you saw somewhere?

  • It is from the book of psalms but we actually chose it because of a GORGEOUS lauryn hill song that my husband and I listened too constantly when we first started dating and has been a really important song to us. I love the name and love that it has special meaning to us but it almost feels to proper, my body wants to shorten it or "cutesy" it somehow, does that make sense? haha
  • My personal opinion:

I'm not a big fan of Elliot for a girl, and I don't see Elsie as a nickname for that (although I love Elsie in general and think it would be a great nickname for something else--Elsa, Elisabeth, etc). I personally don't care for Harlow, (although both that and Elliot flow okay with Grace) and I really don't like the sound of "Loie"--just sounds like trying too hard to have a nn. I like the traditional spelling of Harriet, and I think that flows nicely with Grace and Hattie as a nickname makes sense. I really like Selah Grace, but can't think of a nickname at all--but then I'm okay with names not having a nn. It sounds like that's really important to you--you could always come up with a nn that isn't related to the name per se.

  • The only thing I can think of for Selah is using the first part of her name, sounding like Sail, or Sails if you're into adding an "s" to nicknames.  First time I've not been able to find suggested nicknames on baby name sites.

  • Maybe Sally or Sellie? Neither are actually the same vowel sound as is in Selah, but neither is Harriot/Hattie, so maybe that's ok. And I understand your need to find a good nickname, there were a couple names we deleted from the list simply because there's no nn for them!

Hattie is probably my fav on your list though :)

  • I like Hattie.  I am NOT into Elliot for a girl.

I am racking my brain but can't think of a NN for Selah either...

  • I like Harriet/Hattie the most off of your list but Selah is unique and pretty too. What about Sadie as a nn??
